We apply reasoning processes to the situation, formulate ideas about it, and then create a series of words that express our ideas. But our ideas exist on their own, even if we never end up putting them into words or actions. That's how organic intelligence differs from a Large Language Model.
I'm probably remembering it wrong, it was a long time ago. It definitely always either won or tied but could never lose, because it knew the right responses to every move. No, it didn't cheat lol.
This reminds me of one of my very first programs, a tic-tac-toe game I wrote in high school. It displayed hardcoded grids of Xs and Os and blanks very similar to what's shown here. This approach worked because of the much more limited move possibilities. The program could always win if it made the first move, and always win or tie if the human moved first, depending on if the human made mistakes. I wish I still had the code.
I'm doing one right now, and you're reading it. Other times I write scenarios for my D&D campaign, do 3d printing, and wiring/coding for IoT devices. Also making cookies. Also eating the cookies.
I'll never forgive whatever TV business entities were involved for not having Ben Browder and Claudia Black play their Farscape characters when they both joined the cast of Stargate. Because that would have been an awesome and perfectly plausible way to connect the two shows.

I see this exact mental non-process in so much social media. I think the endless firehose of memes and headlines is training people to glance at an item, spend minimal brain power processing it and forming a binary opinion, then up/downvote and scroll on. When that becomes people's default mental process, you've got Idiocracy, and that's what we've got. But I see no solution. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it spend more than two seconds before screaming at the water and calling it EVIL.
Funny story - we used to have little in-house tournaments after work before a release, which I sometimes played in just for fun - I sucked at the game. But one time I was literally walking into the tournament room and just decided nah, not tonight, and went home. Found out the next day, everybody who participated in that one received a free Black Lotus.
Many years ago there was something weirdly wrong with our old washer or dryer where white things occasionally came out stained bright pink. Not an overall tint like if you wash a cheap red shirt in the same load. It was always very distinct vivid stains, like if a little Pepto Bismol got splashed around. We never figured out what the hell was causing it.
