  • Pretty sure giving away alcohol for free is illegal everywhere in the US. I know for sure it is in Illinois. Thats why you need to buy tickets to beer festivals and "use" the tickets to sample beers. Brewers just ignore the tickets and give away their beer because its about getting people to try something new and maybe visit their taproom or buy their beer at the store later.

  • I'm feeling the same way. I've bounced around a few places since joining. I started on midwest.social which was great for a while, but I think the instance grew more than the dev could keep up with. I started seeing connectivity issues and problems displaying content so I reluctantly migrated to .world to see what joining the largest instance would be like. The technical issues went away but I couldn't figure out why I could no longer see /c/piracy until I realized that they're a bunch of pushovers that defederated from dbzer0 based on some liability bogeyman. So I found myself on Lemmy.zip where I can police my own content and have no technical issues.

    Legacy media's current objective is to inflate EVERY story they can, let the public ruminate on it a bit and use engagement to either push it more or let it die out. The adminstration managed to capture the broad audience with faux mystery about how the liner failed, so everyone knew and was talking about it. Then they made arrests to drag attention to innocent people being scapegoated by a fascist government. So now we're forced to choose between spending the time correcting the record so innocent people don't end up in prison and bringing the focus back on Epstein with the understanding that its very likely nothing would come of it anyway. At least one of the 2 options helps free innocent people.

    To be clear. I really wish we could force media to talk about both in equal length and with equal vigor, but they're in on it. I really hate where we are right now and found myself watching the World Cup trophy presentation despite actively disliking both countries in the final just on the non-zero chance I could see the feed interrupted by his assassination.

  • I was shocked to learn a couple days ago when I installed Mint on my wife's Surface laptop that the UI scaling only had 2 options for scaling in the basic settings. 100% and 200%. I had to click advanced settings, enable fractional scaling or something similar, go back and then I had options for 50, 75, 125, 150, etc. i don't remember if I saw a box for custom values though.

    I don't think that's true. I'm pretty certain all of my domains are HTTPS only, but maybe that's because I own the domain? Does cloudflare offer free domain names for tunneled traffic?
