  • Oh, if it matters, I also run Memory Clean 2 to monitor RAM usage and do Extreme Clean from time to time.

I forgot about this because it’s basically muscle memory at this point, but maybe this is making a difference?

As of right now with just Sibelius, Scrivener, and about 40 browser tabs (no Adobe), I have 2.01 GB free.

e: I downvoted my original comment since it’s now occurred to me that this app may be why my machine isn’t struggling.

  • Yeah, I’m not sure about Tahoe since my machine is too old so it won’t let me upgrade, but at least Sequoia has been fine with 8GB.

  • Sequoia.

  • That’s not true at all.

I constantly have Illustrator, Photoshop, Sibelius, Scrivener, and about 100 browser tabs open on my 10 year old MacBook with 8gb of RAM without issue.

  • Yeah, it kinda feels like you could do a very ‘boring’ science series just showing all of that. But I feel like that’s just ‘sci’ with no ‘fi’.

  • To be fair, it would be a boring show if they didn’t.

Ship enters orbit of a planet

‘Spock, what do our scans show?’

‘Intense geologic activity, no atmosphere, no life signs.’

Ship spends the next 3 months in orbit collecting data, moves on to the next target

‘Spock, what do our scans show?’

‘Planet is frozen, no geologic activity, no life signs.’

Ship spends the next 3 months in orbit collecting data

Realistic sci fi is waaayyy too boring for a general audience.

  • Sounds like a 120.

  • Perhaps that’s part of my 180 on this – I was a software dev and senior UXD for 30 years.

    Totally get you.

  • That people are smart.

Most people are abject morons who still believe in Iron Age mythology.

  • I was answering this as a dev and designer. That’s why this is more work.

  • Of course he did. No reason to debate this here; we all know this is abominable and he is a monster.

Can we chat about how a malignant narcissist who is willing to commit atrocities and has apparently decided he’s going to hell anyhow (and has become kinda obsessed with that) has access to the largest nuclear arsenal on earth? With the walls closing in?

  • Oh, then the dipshit is definitely going to try it.

  • For your layout preferences, colours, other UI options, states (what ‘back’ means), things like that, usually. If you have an account, what page you were on last, your history so it can give you related items, and other ‘convenience’ features.

Less ethical sites use them to advertise to you, and (more rarely) some scammers use them to scam you.

Most are benign, but some are not.

  • Everyone wants a demon bursting through the ground in an explosion of lava. There are classes for that. Nobody has ever asked for a scarf in our game, and our code doesn’t even know what a neck is.

  • You do deserve better. I am glad you can see that now.

  • Yeah, IIRC when a bunch of large corporations got away with doing this in the 1980s and 90s, a lot of us just assumed it would keep happening. Some people have tried raising the alarm about this, but have been shouted down pretty consistently.

  • It’s actually a domestic peccary, neither a pig nor a boar. That long snout is 100% peccary.

A boar is going to be mean, and a pig doesn’t look like that. Peccaries are routinely domesticated in South America, and look more ‘weird’ to a NA audience.

e: picture of a happy peccary, without the costume that makes it look menacing:

You’ll notice the same tan face colouring as the TNG actor. And look at his cute little ears – this one’s a baby. :)

  • Clearly the dog. Poor thing had to wear 2 fur suits under all those hot lights, whereas George just had to carry an annoyed dog.

  • I am sorry you had to go through that growing up. It makes perfect sense that would influence your first/last desires.

  • We’ve already seen this in medical, with Dr Oz being promoted to a leadership position in the government. And now, since Measles has made a comeback, he’s floundering trying to get a pro-vaccine message out, since oh shit, it turns out traditional doctors who actually listened in med school instead of just paying professors off whilst doing bumps in the dorm room were actually right. Who’da thought?
