  • That’s very kind of you, thanks, truly.

  • Welsh, Scottish, Danish, exclusively. It’s funny, because one side came here in the early 1600s and was the first person to get capital punishment in this country (tried to sell the Bronck’s Farm, was hanged ‘til nearly dead, ear cut off, then banished to New Jersey), then another was Postmaster General and Secretary of the Interior – heritage is weird. And it doesn’t always pass on, no matter what these purists think.

You don’t inherit value, you create it.

    e: to the DMers/downvoters:

    This guy

And this guy (my great uncle, grandpa’s brother)

  • Neat. I wish I could do that. I tried several years ago when I actually had some money because I saw this coming. Nobody wanted disabled people then, and less so Americans now.

People wouldn’t listen back then, when I was called hyperbolic and alarmist, and good fucking luck leaving now. People think leaving is easy – it’s not. We’re stuck in this shit show.

Can’t fix it, can’t leave. Going down with the ship. Fuck everyone who voted to kill me. I will not survive this administration. I’ll probably die within the year because, though I worked my ass off in IT since the 90s, I had to burn through my savings by being weak enough to get sick. *I already have to choose between food and medicine, so I mostly don’t eat. I’ll just stop buying medicine.

So fuck me, I deserve to die now. There’s no escape. There’s no hope.

  • Can’t we have both?

I want Squirrel Girl to mob him with 1000s of squirrels, dragging him from wherever he is to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge, then dangle him by whatever nuts he’s got on him.

    Then I’ll be happy.

  • Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.

  • Oh hey, look at the meme I made and posted 6 years ago on Reddit, the last time this xenophobic moron was in office. It’s almost like we could have predicted this shit.

But no, I was ‘hyperbolic’ and ‘alarmist’ at the time.

(Sorry for the Reddit link, it was this:)

Title: I’m sure Macron would be very happy to work out travel arrangements.

  • Look, all I’m saying is give Pis a chance.

  • This cannot be real, wtf. This is cartoon levels of ineptitude.

Or sabotage by someone heading out? Please let this be resistance sabotage they haven’t noticed yet.

  • This is objectively true:

Trump Taj Mahal paid the largest fine ever levied against a casino for having “willfully violated” anti-money-laundering rules.

And it’s not just any money laundering, but specifically for the Russian Mafia:

Throughout the 1990s, untold millions from the former Soviet Union flowed into Trump’s luxury developments and Atlantic City casinos.

    And:

Over the past three decades, at least 13 people with known or alleged links to Russian mobsters or oligarchs have owned, lived in, and even run criminal activities out of Trump Tower and other Trump properties.

“They saved his bacon,” says Kenneth McCallion, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Reagan administration who investigated ties between organized crime and Trump’s developments in the 1980s.

It’s entirely possible that Trump was never more than a convenient patsy for Russian oligarchs and mobsters, with his casinos and condos providing easy pass-throughs for their illicit riches. At the very least, with his constant need for new infusions of cash and his well-documented troubles with creditors, Trump made an easy “mark” for anyone looking to launder money.

  • The actual origin was darker than that.

It comes from Steve Bannon’s (not trump’s) plan to take control of the government by moving tens of thousands of people (pieces) into strategic places in state legislature over the course of the past 8 years, culminating in the Supreme Court. Bannon referred to it as playing 4D chess in articles on Brietbart and podcasts like 10 years ago.

  • It was oblique.

The robot deciding to save the protagonist vs the girl based on algorithms/statistics, compared with self-driving cars deciding how to react at traffic lights (and save you or not) because they learnt from your decisions in captchas.

  • Good thing self-driving cars were trained on your data!

(Flashback to that Will Smith movie…)

  • ?

I’m not defending anything. You seem too defensive for this conversation, if that’s what you think. (Judging by you downvoting my comments before you even reply, that’s becoming obvious.)

Can you actually define the words you’re using, even to yourself? Or are you lashing out at me based on what you feel they mean?

I’m willing to talk to you, but only if we can agree upon what words like ‘socialism’ mean. If not, we’ll only talk past each other, and I think you’ll agree that will waste both of our time.

  • Of course. Many nations have been 2 of the three. But nobody has ever been all 3, because 2 are antithetical to one another.

e: obv the USSR was communist and authoritarian. Who said they weren’t?

  • I’m not defending anything like that, but:

    1. Authoritarian != communism. Authoritarianism applies equally to communism and fascism. The latter two describe ideology, where ‘authoritarian’ describes scale. Your sentence is like if I said I I use reds, not apples, in my pies. It sort of makes sense, but not really.
    2. You said: ‘I don't seem to understand why democratic social ownership is considered a worse alternative’ yes, exactly! That’s socialism, which is an economic – not a political – system. You can combine that with democracy or communism or fascism.

I really recommend you learn what all these terms mean, because it’s not only super fascinating, but we can each understand and communicate better when we can build upon common concepts.

  • Yes. And communist, fascist, and dictator mean 3 very different things. I used to think they were synonymous, too, but they’re not.

Communist and fascist are polar opposites. Authoritarian is the extremes of both sides. A dictator can exist at any point in the spectrum, and isn’t unique to any side.

It really does help if we can agree what words mean.

  • I mean, have you met art?
