  • Hopefully, yes. We’ll see if he (or, more honestly, the Heritage Foundation) is cogent enough to play his death smartly: rather than try to make Vance a replacement, they should make him trump’s standard-bearer.

Paint trump as a martyr; like Jesus, an absent saviour, with Vance in the role of Peter or Paul. That would be the smart thing, and could potentially work. Trump becomes a saint, with Vance his prophet, and that could get the MAGA movement behind him. We’ll see.

  • Someone who says ‘Strumpf’ is clearly not a serious person.

  • On the plus side, many fascists have tried to use Hitler’s playbook and it hasn’t worked, because one needs the perfect combination of narcissism, shamelessness, idiocy, and perverted charisma to make it work, and that’s exceedingly rare. Vance has very little of that. He’s a bog-standard fascist, and cannot carry a movement.

  • Eh. Trump isn’t a christian by their definition now. He could find Krishna on his deathbed and they’ll still make pilgrimages to his grave, expecting him to rise up as their saviour.

They don’t care about his beliefs or actions. All that matters is their own fear, anger, and hate. That’s all this has really been about. Not ideals, not standards, and certainly not reality.

  • Yes. Yes, they are.

  • He’s still batshit, just in a better-tailored suit.

The good news is the MAGA crowd don’t have fanatical loyalty to him.

  • Yes, but the fact he feels the need to say this aloud means it’s on his mind, and that’s potentially good news.

    🤞

  • I parented a teen boy. Sometimes, no matter what you do and no matter how close you were before puberty, a switch flips outside your control and they won’t talk to you anymore. We were a typical family, no abuse, no fighting, nobody on drugs, both parents with 9-5 office jobs, very engaged with school and etc.

Thankfully, after riding it out (getting him therapy, giving space, respect, and support), he came out the other side fine. But there were a few harrowing years during that phase.

I went through a similar phase in my teens. If AI was there to feed my issues, I might not have survived it. Teenage hormones are a helluva drug.

  • Yep, I was gonna say, as a child of the 70s/early 80s, I was a totally unsupervised latch-key kid. The paedophiles loved that. It was a predator’s paradise. Most of us knew kids our age who either vanished or died by misadventure, and many of us were assaulted in some way.

I don’t like helicopter parenting, either, but anyone who sees the Wild West of the 80s as some sort of ideal either has a faulty memory or is deluding themselves.

  • Everyone who’s dealt with kids knows you have to bisect the giraffe equally from nose to tail so everyone gets 2 legs, or somebody will cry that it’s unfair.

  • Being delicious one time works, since everyone else in your tribe can see what delicious gets you.

  • Or the other way round.

Some franchises try to eke out more profits and corporate might not like how that degrades their brand.

  • No, I’d show my local this photo and ask why they were shafting me.

  • This was nearly 30 years ago. I hope they don’t still make that assumption. Back then, they didn’t even ask. If I hadn’t stopped them, they would have just done it as a matter of routine. I really hope that’s changed now, and I’m curious if people who have had kids more recently in the US have a different experience. I hope so.

e: did they even ask you? Did you even consider it before recently, or is this still just what’s done?

  • The hospital did this with my son, too.

I’d already told them before he was born we weren’t having him circumcised, but a nurse showed up the morning after to take him, and I’m glad I was awake, because they weren’t going to ask me. I groggily asked ‘where are you taking him?’ as she was walking away (I figured it was for blood work), and she said, ‘oh, you’re up? For his circumcision’. ‘No, no, we’re not doing that.’ She put him back in the crib.

They just assumed, and then it showed up on my bill. Took months to get the charge removed.

I’m not religious, and we don’t need to routinely mutilate baby penises, thanks.

  • Where’ssss my foreskin, preciousss?

  • He looks like licking him would let me see sooooo many colours. Why tasty look if not tasty?

  • The moment the seatbelt sign goes off, a bunch of people always stand in the aisle, even though the exit door won’t open for several minutes and even though several of them are a dozen rows from their belongings.

They can’t deboard yet, and are only making themselves an impediment, so those in forward rows can’t even try to access the bins. In this photo, like on most flights, the majority of people in the forward seats can’t stand, because the aisle is filled with people who can’t deboard yet, likely because the door hasn’t opened yet.

This saves the bargers at best 30 seconds at the expense of everyone else forward in the plane, and it’s very rude.

  • Yes. Learn to queue. It’s not hard, and it’s much more efficient – we all get there faster if you’re not barging
