  • Yeah but pixelfed is coming out with loops, it's been on beta for awhile, that is basically Tik Tok with no ads or government/big tech ownership. I personally feel like that could have taken a giant chunk of the Tik Tok users and kept them from having to learn to read ideograms to access content they wanted. I don't personally use that format of social media but I tried it on Android and it looks just like Tik Tok looked that I have seen on others devices.

  • Someone should sue JD Vance for addressing Trump as Mr. President. Illegally addressing him as a man. Clearly sewing doubt in the direct orders of the president, it's detrimental to the entire country.

  • If only he was in a retirement home where he should be

  • Wouldn't the ISP be liable?

  • I only acknowledge technological advancements made in writing utensils. Keyboards and Typewriters do NOT count. So don't even get me started

  • It's just colors, if colors evoke blind hatred in someone, I likely wouldn't want them around me anyways. It looks to me like an interlinked web of different nodes. Which seems to be a pretty accurate representation of the hosting and federations.

  • Sec. 2) This division prohibits distributing, maintaining, updating, or providing internet hosting services for a foreign adversary controlled application (e.g., TikTok).

The "providing internet hosting services" seems like it could be an issue there

  • Not all apps, review/travel sites get a pass, and the decision is left to the president, which is a dumb way to do it.

DIVISION H-- PROTECTING AMERICANS FROM FOREIGN ADVERSARY CONTROLLED APPLICATIONS ACT

Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act

(Sec. 2) This division prohibits distributing, maintaining, updating, or providing internet hosting services for a foreign adversary controlled application (e.g., TikTok). However, the prohibition does not apply to a covered application that executes a qualified divestiture as determined by the President.

Under the division, a foreign adversary controlled application is an application directly or indirectly operated by (1) ByteDance, Ltd., TikTok, their subsidiaries, successors, related entities they control, or entities controlled by a foreign adversary country; or (2) a social media company that is controlled by a foreign adversary country and determined by the President to present a significant threat to national security. (Here, a social media company excludes any website or application primarily used to post product reviews, business reviews, or travel information and reviews.)

  • Yeah, that's why I brought that one up

  • Not sure that is true though. When I read the law it specifies that the President can choose to block ANY foreign owned social media site that they (as in the president) deems a national security threat. So Trump could in theory say ban RedNote tomorrow and it legally would have to be done. That said.. he may be able to just say "bytedance is not considered a national security threat at this time" and that may be enough to let TikTok continue to be in the U.S.

I'd have to read it again to confirm

Edit: nah ByteDance got targeted hard, no dodging that.

  • I didn't bother following the court case, what were they arguing, freedom of the press?

  • Multiple apps must have done so.

That's what I see when I search for Marvel Snap on the playstore. Someone mentioned it was down as well earlier

  • Their themes were sexy as well. Infinite scrolling was off by default, I have to say if I weren't avoiding going back to reddit, it looks pretty great.

  • Aggravated crime rates are down in the U.S.

    GOP: Hold my champagne

  • Encourage employment? Do these people think you can somehow live off snap? It doesn't pay for rent, transportation, cooking utensils, napkins, toilet paper... Anything bit uncooked foods. If you want to cut the money needed for snap, increase minimum wage so they make enough money to pay living expenses while working.

  • My favorite was when I took Calc 2 and the teacher just told us if we knew someone who took the course in the last 7 years ask if you can get theirs. The new version just deleted 4 chapters and didn't even change the chapter numbers. It just went something like Chapter 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,13,14,15.. brand new price tag though.

  • It was, they sold the clickers

  • -I’m waiting for the cesium / fluorine battery, should theoretically be awesome. Or extremely explosive

I wonder how much it would cost to personally attempt this experiment.. (starts hunting for renters insurance)

  • Maybe they'll make the businesses pay back the 757 billion dollars that was forgiven in the paycheck protection program... Not going to hold my breath.
