If full time Walmart employees need government assistance programs to afford food and pay their rent, is it not Walmart who is leaning on government assistance?

  • I think the act of not accepting the phone call tells you everything about him. He isn't interested in you for a reason he's not proud of or he truly thinks nothing of you and is incredibly selfish. It's normal to feel all of those ways about a perceived rejection, but in time you'll easily see that anyone who sees no need to explain something about you to you is a crappy mate anyways.

    Just my suspicion is that he was actively pursuing more than just you and your hesitency was making the completion of your summary difficult for him. This could be misogyny about a perceived imbalance in power dynamics, but just keep in mind, again, that someone who feels chivalry is an important 2 way street on a literal first date isn't trying that hard. You will find guys far more there for you; in presence, respect, empathy, and patience.

    The long term relationship switching to open to short sounds like he's still tuning his wants and needs, and that's personal to him. You're only responsible for changing your bad decisions in the relationship, which honestly after 1 day there's not much to analyze. Just be happy, as you will be eventually, that he didn't waste more of your time in this earth hiding information from you the way he did by not accepting the call.

    Constitutional originalists Brett, Amy, Gorsuch, and uncle Thomas sure haven't seemed to have read the the constitution. They're fully willing to go along with the judicial review power grab that's not in the constitution. They're fully willing to ignore that FED HAS NO JURISDICTION OVER FEDERAL ELECTIONS.

    Obviously accepting the premise of a cabal of liars is a loser's game. I want to hear democrats talk retribution, but leaders there run their own cabal of cover. If progressives don't win big and commit day one this is going to end in mass bloodshed

  • Not really imo, it's mostly because traditional forums "bump" posts back up to the top. That promotes back and forth that's required in order to help people diagnose a problem to the actual solution, and as a result of not having a bump prioritization feature, a lot of people only ever speak once in the comments.

  • A program which contains or accepts a database of yeast characteristics and computes likely chemical reaction favorabilities given temperature, alcohol content over time, fermentables availability, volume, and time. An example might be, "This recipe process will produce undesirable phenols" when you use more sugar than a 6% strain can use, which will stress it out and release bad flavors. Each yeast has tolerances. Also given temperature you could make predictions about desirable phenol metabolite flavors and aromas such as banana, cherry, raisins, etc. You could also do a worst case likely scenario on ambient temperature needs for a fermenter of a given size to resist heating as a result of yeast activity, so if you're targeting 60 degrees "banana" zone, you would need to have it in a fridge at 50 degrees or whatever during the first few days of fermentation to keep it from going higher into other flavors.

    This is complicated and may require research papers. The internet can often be wrong about brewing tips and explanations for results, so I've found scientific literature or some Belgian brewing books like, "how to brew like a monk" to be good solid information that isn't based on nisconceptions.

  • Audio custom box fabrication is currently reliant on either clunky web tools for computing resonant frequencies, port recommendations, bracing requirements, etc. There is a very nice app called bass box pro, however it's so old that it requires compatibility mode and has a comically outdated GUI. Even within this app it does not account for complex shapes, cubic feet of the room or car open air, ideal locations for loading walls relative to the listener, direction of the cone, effective of distance from cone to port, Massloaded Vinyl thickness to bounce what % of the energy or what the floor on a downfiring sub is made of and if you need a pad for it, effects of constrained layer dampening on the inside of the box, different infill material than polyfill, thickness of the wood by wood type, final prediction weight, tips and hints on how to slide each stat up and down, so like if your maximum space allotment would give you a resonance of 37hz, what would you change to raise or lower it within different constraints like space, port dimensions, rigidity, power, etc.

    It's heavily math-based, but the current solutions are behind the times and while it's easy to find explanations for each question, having a self enclosed app would be great. Also FYI bassbox pro isn't cheap, so it's got actual value and will not really expire if the solution is global. Bassbox allows you to enter databases of new speakers to keep it relevant. Allowing car cu ft, speakers, building material specs, or something crazy like an stl or step file to accurately describe a shape or a box would be fire

  • Maybe a hot take, but if you visit the hospital/er 5+ times after giving birth, have a history of postpartum depression and probable postpartum psychosis, your husband is arguing with the doctors on your behalf, they keep giving you SSRIs when she's had bad reactions in the past to them, she's talked about hearing voices to her doctor. She's called the suicide hotline and gone to the ER for suicidal ideation, and hinted that the voice wants her to kill her kids then...

    1. Don't switch her to a new SSRI and then discharge her immediately.
    2. Don't leave her alone with her kids.
    3. Consult an OGBYN
    4. Prioritize her.

    It's pretty fucked how many people failed her in a traumatic way, and ultimately failed those kids too.

    I think even in this thread there's some misunderanding about how serious of an ailment postpartum psychosis can be. I've seen someone else with it and thankfully she went to the psych ward immediately and was helped find the right med and feels better now. She said similar things about wanting to hurt her child and felt like she was becoming a sociopath. It's not common, and most people stigmatized mental health conditions and probably 10x for psychosis. I think that's the bare minimum of understanding needed before you should even have kids just in case, because doctors can miss it, like in her case.

  • More niche communities that I don't have to manage to enjoy. TBF Reddit is pretty bad as a forum too. Car audio for example or really anything where the majority of the discourse is newbies wanting help gets drowned out by people repping popular brands, showing off pie in the sky builds that wouldn't sound good, or arguing about whether capacitors do anything.

  • It's valid critique, but I don't like the precedence of being stupid also taking away your humanity. Education can fail us in deliberate ways from the top sometimes, I wouldn't say folks with a bad education aren't human. Even for folks who lean out of otherwise good education, or who don't hone their critical thinking skills, I judge them as humans who suck. Being in the middle of a fascist regime and with mainstream news dehumanizing minorities, I think language around humanity is important.

  • Idk about that, but certainly there is a very strong correlation between people like this and those who feel like they need to consult chatgpt or grok to filter out basic facts. Their willingness to give up their own thoughts and opinions bodes poorly for the future, especially of democracy.

  • Sorta depends for me. If I can connect the YouTuber back to something valid like an event where science is held in high esteem or collabs with people I do trust I'll give it a shot. Basically every single time this is not the case, and in his case it's literally never the case. Dude searches for his batshit view, clicks the first video without watching it, then sends it like I'm supposed to filter it for him. He'd believe in aliens if the video had 1 million views. He kinda does anyways since the why files is his favorite channel and it's barely researched (by AI) slop, where whatever his agent can't disprove becomes a "mystery"

    One of the examples that comes to mind is the Navy UAP videos, where he looked at what was clearly a bird, wing flaps and all, locked on to by a fighter jet and said "that's a craft and WOAH it disappeared (when the pilot lost autotarget)" as well as, "a fighter pilot on Fox said it's a vehicle of some sort and he's a lot smarter than you." And got indignant and walked off when I said, "smarter and paid or a lot dumber than me, either way he's wrong."
