Europe is nothing other than a geographical location, western Russia is also in "Europe", but surely you can see how this is not the same as the US, which is not a geographical location but a specific political entity?
People obviously don't judge Venezuela for what the US does and vice versa, so why include the UK in discourse about EU?

We don't even have corn syrup in our soda or chlorine in our chickens, no putrasene for chocolate, in Europe we don't even know what tums are which seems to be a common thing to take in the US. We have chemical food dyes but just because they're chemicals - as is everything - doesn't mean they're bad.
Spicy food does not mean good food or more interesting food, eastern European food is almost never spicy but it's almost always really good and hardly bland as most westerners would cower in fear at the sight of some marinated fish or some such.
Pre-pandemic it was cheap and fast and 24/7 and there were genuine quality items you could get if you knew them and as long as you're not some moron who buys fries/meals and only solo main items, like chicken legend at McDonald's.
I would walk for 5 min at like 3AM or whenever felt right in central London and have a £4 meal back at my flat. Cheap, quick and easy.
Now it's all gone, it's three times as expensive, all the good items have been removed like the aforementioned example and they shut at 6pm. It's just worthless.
Now I WFH rurally, used to go to subway for a quick breakfast on busy days because it was a 10 mins walk, but they shut too and now it's some shitty asian restaurant and/or german kitchen retailer.

Revolution sure is a nice idea, but I don't see anyone getting off their arses and doing it (talking about it on Lemmy doesn't matter, it's a tiny little bubble), and honestly, I don't even think revolutions are technically possible anymore (the powers that be are very keenly aware of its processes, mechanisms and risks, and media manipulation is so fucking easy these days)

I've seen what happens when the left starts voicing their mistrust of the government too carelessly. The right will take those complaints and shift them into their own, and things will snowball very quickly.
They will do this either way. It's utterly irrelevant what you say, a determined rightoid will twist it to their gain.
People often mistake the idea of trust with the idea of blind faith. You can trust someone/something and still complain and fight against some of their actions and decisions.
Yeah I fundamentally don't believe it is possible to have a truly beneficial government in any useful modern contemporary sense of the term. The very concentration of power invites corruption.

So? I lived through history too, extreme poverty in Russia, brief benefits of liberalisation, government overreach and eventually the beginning of fascist wars of conquest, then Brexit in the UK and utter collapse of consensus reality across the west and it's taught me rather differently.

and if a government moves aggressively into regulating that, we should take a step back and think very hard while analysing the whole picture. Even if it looks like authoritarianism, it might still be the correct choice.
