  • Okay this article is dog shit but Google Drive has absolutely awful search and is missing so many basic features even for things like finding out where a file is so I'm not defending Google there, the author makes a bad critique but it's a thing worth critiquing.

    Subjectively, material design in its newest iteration is just also ugly as sin too, android 8 - android 10 was peak android, get these fucking pastels and overly large buttons off my phone and bring back the white/blue simplicity of yesteryear gosh darn it.

  • I would do the same I normally do except just not eating, I don't think it really changes much I mostly eat either for pleasure or to literally not die anyway so I'd just not do the latter.

    I don't want to be mean but you have to actually use words to be a bit more descriptive than that and maybe think about it some more.

    If the posts are irrelevant - subscribe to different communities? How do you normally decide on these things, like e.g. how do you find YouTube channels to subscribe to and how do you decide which of these to watch? Are you applying the same logic here? If not, why not? If yes, then what's the aspect of the usual/expected outcome that is missing?

  • Yeah that show is a slow burner vibe thing and i think you were right to stop watching it because you gotta meet it where it's at - messy, creative, emblematic of the paperback sci-fi classics, not quite so neat as something like Expanse or Star Trek in terms of structure and plot and character taking a backseat to the themes, it's less Stellaris, more Solaris, less Mass Effect and more No Man's Sky.

    This show to the original BSG is like Primer to Back to the Future.

    What helped me through is I just enjoy military dramas so the standalone episodes like the one about the industrial workers and such just kept me engaged in the moment as episodic adventures and so I was in no hurry for a thread to follow, though the arc in S2 and onto the climax in Season 4.

    It's not everyone's cup of tea but I do find this show beautiful in a way,

  • I have a high aversion to echo chambers because I too am a human same as everyone and find people just agreeing with me grossly unstimulating and seek out takes opposite to mine to understand them, deconstruct them and apply them to my own views either to refine/change them with a newly gained perspective or to argue against the opposing view.

    I blocked all of those people because they are just unsalvageable people in my view. I was discussing the finer points of relative drug danger with some guy in a thread, talking about hypothetical lethal dosages for ht-2a classical psychedelics, and the guy was bringing up "Woodstock" and "brown acid" and how he "heard of a guy" etc etc.

    There's no point discussing anything ever with a person like that, it's clear that we think along such different lines the differences are irreconcilable, like trying to convince someone not to be a bigot or disprove someone's belief in religion/conspiracy with evidence and reason, when they just believe in that stuff, they don't think about it and weren't reasoned into it.

  • I have blocked 264 users, 9 communities and 4 instances and it's made Lemmy much better for me toxicity wise. Whenever a debate gets toxic or someone starts just insulting or discussing in bad faith or I just get a bad vibe from them - I block.

  • How am I meant to fuck off from work for an hour to go to the store? Even if grocery stores sold electronics which they don't, everything closes at 6PM latest. On Saturdays it's 3PM, even if I could carry enough to shop for an entire week ahead on my back.

  • I mean, I don't think my example is an extreme, like I work from home every single day and have always done so, there are no longer stores around me that sells any electronics, and as I don't drive, I get it delivered, which is the primary and most of the time the only way of buying anything that isn't groceries for me these days.

    If anything my example is an extremely down to earth grass-touch-core argument built off explicitly literally what my life is in the most literal sense wholly about the basic material realities of it, and it highlights the problems with their their absolutist internet-extremist-silliness-core-ass rhetoric. I don't get in any way how it's "extreme" or "equivalent" to the other user's batshit insane propositions.

    Are you implying I in any way disagree with the actual rhetoric of "let's have less car-centric infrastructure?" Because I don't and I never stated that. Moreover I do agree with you though, I don't drive and I hate cars anyway. I just don't like that user's rhetoric because it smells like degrowth ecofash type rhetoric, which is extremely harmful and leads to NIMBYism and as such worsening material conditions and issues like homelessness and poverty traps and enriches landlords.

    Environment good because it makes things for people better, not as a thing unto itself. On that basis and only on that basis with that reasoning as the guiding and completely overriding principle - I agree, fuck cars. 👍
