Well, I'm glad you know about it now, but let's be real nerds won't shut up about it, so there are plenty who do know but choose not to.
That said, I see no way under a capitalist framework to justify Google being forced to explain to users that they can use F-Droid and what the benefits are, nor do I think such average users will understand an explanation or choose to not ignore it and enforce them to word it such that it doesn't end up doing nothing or the opposite.
The only hoop is one setting to enable third party app installs afaik, possibly also turning off play protect.
Idk at this point it's like saying that changing the TV channel is a "hoop" because it requires a button press.
Not defending Google either, every time I install an app from F-Droid it prompts me to "Turn on Play Protect" to "improve security" with an obligatory dark pattern to boot but honestly if someone can't navigate a simple dark pattern idk how they get dressed in the morning or know truth from fiction.
Whole place glows like it's bioluminescent at this point.
A shame really.
I really liked being able to buy Monero with PayPal on LocalMarket and sellers always used TG, bit of a scam exchange rate wise but well worth it for small domestic DNM orders without fucking with KYC data harvesting ops like exchanges etc. and then have to mess with atomic swaps and whatnot just because the gov't fascists-in-chief used my taxes to ban BTC ATMs from back in the day.
I imagine the sellers used this to launder money they made as vendors on DNMs or some such enterprise.
Websites you visit can port scan your entire network bypassing most firewall rules and NAT. Your phone tracks your notifications and keystrokes and builds data models from both.
People love it though. Or they hate technology. Anything but hating corporations and the rich that gives them that sweet sweet dopamine
Defaults aren't the same as restrictions. I've had F-Droid since it's inception and got no clue why others don't use it but that's their life and choices.
On iOS I had no such option apart from the inconsistently available jailbreak requiring Cydia.
They're both shitty practices don't get me wrong, I was only saying that that user seemed to be implying Google in any way restricts sideloading on android which is not true.
I'm just disappointed that people are so gullible as to donate to multi-millionaire YouTubers and other e-celebs and content slop farms they form these so-called "parasocial bonds" with, addicted to consuming algorithmically driven content on big tech platforms and enriching their "betters".
To go out of their way to hand more money over to rich people at any opportunity from subscriptions to ads to this, for increasingly less and less value. To bend over backwards just because they got a little hit of dopamine because of some pattern of blue light on a computer monitor dancing to the tune of our ailing civilization.
Each to their own of course, but goddamn I wish people were better. It's like the whole world went crazy. Maybe it always was. Most people feel like aliens who make no sense, who's perspective I can't even fathom, whether it's the internet or IRL, and reasonable people seem few and far between.
Each thing like this, another stick upon the camel's back. Another bit of disappointment. Another weary sigh, yet we press on. Thanks for asking.
Honestly it's news to me but having read through those most of them are not an issue.
setup a VPN. Pray you don't have a user on a device that doesn't have a VPN app that you can work with.
Dafuck kind of a nitpick is this? In what world does OpenVPN not have an application for every device and OS combo out there fully supported? You tryna watch it on a VCR or smth?
I can't lift most things people can, in many ways im less strong than comparable in terms of height cis women. I'm a clutz but can occasionally display dexterity like dodging out of the way of something or catching a difficult casual throw of some object.
I recovered from surgery about 2 months ahead of schedule, I frequently just ignore the fact food is expired and eat it and I'm fine most of the time, never been seriously sick or broke a bone and have put my body through absolute hell in terms of circumstances and drugs and am fine.
I wouldn't say I'm smart but I do work in cybersecurity and am learning hacking which requires a lot of brain effort, so I suppose being able to keep up with that must mean I'm fairly above average.
Wisdom I'd say I'm pretty high on, I can connect between disparate ideas and cross-domain knowledge fairly easily and intuitively.
My charisma is okay when I am dunking and roasting people, I have a good sense of humour, but I'm not very convincing, I'm a critic.
Idk forming habits for me just isn't possible. Even fully medicated for ADHD I can form some small habits but things like regular mealtimes/bedtimes/exercise times are just not possible for me it seems no matter how much I try. People who are able to plan meals and such and say they do regular amounts of something at regular times to me seem like they can't really be human.
I eat when I'm hungry. I don't have any issues with weight. I walk when I need to go somewhere, but I walk everywhere, no issues with exercise (yet). I eat what I feel like eating at the time, but I only have a few comfort foods I rotate between but I never get delivery and seldom get takeaway (only when I'm without food on a Sunday evening and all the shops are closed). I sleep well and usually 8 hours total, but at random times in random quantities, work permitting - I sleep when I'm tired.
That's a dumb idea though, best shot to make friends is through a website or social media or dating app.
Outside it's almost impossible because like lol you're not gonna harass randoms at a grocery store because you like their band t-shirt or smth unless you're 13.
And I suppose unless you're already some outdoorsy knucklehead, but then the kinda folks you meet in those situations aren't the ones at least i'd want around, there's not much to talk about with a person like that, can't share any hobbies like e.g. exploit dev, music production, video games, electronics (breadboards, Arduino, that kinda dealie), politics, history, economics, drugs (no weed or alcohol tho ewww 🤮) plus they're probably some moron who thinks 5G causes COVID, trump is going to fix Europe and vaping is harmful for you and drinks coffee instead of monster and probably eats sugary food etc etc...
Idk what I'm saying anymore or why I'm on this app. My company is the only one I enjoy. I think I have schizoaffective disorder.
Why don't people affected by algos just choose not to use them? I don't use any content-feeding algorithms beyond basic non-personalized sorting functions that I can examine the code of myself if I wish as here on Lemmy.
But people don't want that, or they'd be on Lemmy, Mastodon etc. People don't even use the subscriptions page on YouTube, they prefer the algorithms, they don't like having agency and they don't like making decisions. Some people even use shuffle on just algo suggested songs on Spotify.
Many yet, pay with their time via choosing to hear and see ads for this privilege.
Some even pay money for renting algorithmic digital slop. Every time Netflix raises prices, the subscriptions increase. People love the boot.
Well, I'm glad you know about it now, but let's be real nerds won't shut up about it, so there are plenty who do know but choose not to.
