  • Besides being illegal, that is not a very wise thing to do. Given enough time, the majority of those coins in circulation are going to be defaced. Of course, you’d have to be looney to use a coin for a dollar in the first place, but what do I know, eh?

  • I think it’s a form of loyalty test for them for sure, but also I really do think it comes it down to him being that vain. One of the first things he did after confirmation was have a makeup studio installed. Guarantee an hour or more of his day is spent in front of a mirror, every day.

Armchair psychologist: Things aren’t going as planned in Iran, and he feels like he looks like a fool for it, so he’s lashing out and attacking the media for making him look bad.

  • The weird thing is they weren’t even bad pictures of him. Like, he looks like a douchebag who would use terms like ‘warfighter’ instead of just saying soldier, but the photos were just him. It’s not like the Vanity Fair photos that purposefully focused on the lip injection wounds, etc.

  • Saw this on bluesky the other day and it’s been rolling around my brain ever since:

On the one hand, the US Presidency is fundamentally broken.

On the other hand, the US Congress is fundamentally broken.

On the third hand, the US Supreme Court is fundamentally broken.

Our entire system of governance needs to be updated for the 21st century, but with current leadership I can only see that as creating more harm for the citizenry.

  • Chuck Schumer is certainly going to be on the wrong side of this war.

  • The Private Eye by Brian K Vaughn used that as a premise (set in 2076) for a comic run about a decade ago.

  • Called it when it was first announced. That’s 4 out of 4 now.

  • I really hope it works out with them, on paper it’s everything I’m looking for.

  • Everyone did know back then. That’s what’s so frustrating about this entire thing. There are jokes about lolita island from 25 years ago. The video with Trump talking about his best friend Epstein who ‘likes them a little young’ is from like 1998. It has been an open secret for literally decades now and still both the perpetrators and the people who could hold them responsible are all still looking around pretending it’s news to them.

  • Have been for a while. I think this is them getting ahead of more people realizing it. Puts it into the frame they want as opposed to ‘every step you take is being constantly tracked.’

  • That MFer said he was going to write a dissertation refuting the validity of ’For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in’ (Matthew 25:35).

The fucking gall of these people.

  • I don’t think it has anything to do with thinking it will end soon. He has zero ability restrain himself. Take the Jerome Powell thing; in May his term ends no matter what and Trump can appoint whoever he likes, legally. And yet, he is going out of his way to frame him for fraud so that he can remove him NOW. The simple function of him being told no obsesses to the point of mania. He fails the ‘marshmallow test’ in spectacular fashion, and this is just another example of it.

He is a monster unrestrained in all aspects.

  • While technically true, that headline greatly misrepresents what actually happened.

  • Yes, and they lost it definitively. Although that was first term, so who knows this time around.

  • If true, then it is beyond dumb. When I need to do office related work, ie typing a document or using spreadsheets, the most relevant term would be office. Not a term that is a reference to flying a plane.

Of course I don’t use microsoft for anything, but it is wild to watch that company completely forget what it is that they do.

  • The difference is they didn’t even bother to lie this time. (I was both opposed then and now, in case that is unclear).

  • Absolutely, but Chuck has already pushed back on that. If anyone is olanning on calling their representatives about this, make sure to point that out (and push for new leadership in both houses).

  • Exactly. While I think Americans should be doing more to pressure the few elected officials that may care, some key points are constantly glossed over. We have the largest military in the world (by a factor of like 10x), we have the highest prisoner population on earth and one of the highest per capita, we have the number one propaganda operation on earth and it has been running wildly for longer than most of us have been alive, our government was specifically set up to marginalize our voices, and our vast geography make it incredibly easy to discount/hard to mobilize the populace.

You don’t hear people saying the Chinese citizenry need to step up when their govt commits atrocities. And before anyone brings up either Tiananmen Square or the Buddhist monk who self immolated- we haven’t had the tank scene play out but we have had people self-immolate in front of the White House. And it was just as effective as the demonstrations in China—in that it wasn’t effective.
