  • I have a great dislike for Apple, and have never bought or used any of their products. I still downvoted the comment because it's wrong (use doesn't define general intelligence), toxic, and misguided (attacks those that we would prefer to change).

  • I don't think that assessment works as well in Asia and China as it does in the west, because spirituality and things like alternative medicine are much more ingrained in their culture.

    Context matters, and depending on the context, you can still have valuable interactions with them as long as it doesn't slip into those kinds of areas that you can block off.

  • Going to prove your mother wrong is unlikely to work on her side. "You have to be open to it", "you have to accept it", "maybe not this time". There's a lot of ways to deflect.

    There's psychological, social, and cultural reasons why people make those kinds of connections, form or follow those kinds of ideas.

    For you, I think the question is, could the exposure and social interactions be positive [influences] for you, and how do they compare to the negatives you feel and wrote.

  • No. They're not pushing [human] rights to then push the opposite to push division.

    For division, they can push against rights, and still segregate them as others.

    One set of people grants rights, and another set of people doesn't like that and pushes against rights (often with lies and constructing otherlike and images of enemies).

    The actions seem similar, but their intentions are very different. They're not scared or anxious. They're enabled, demanding, and oppressive.

  • TikTok is a short video social platform. People post only videos. The two you mentioned are short public messaging social platforms, with the capability to post/include videos.

    That's not really what this is about, though. TikTok was not under their control, so they're trying to take control and follow their script of media and social control.

  • In liquid democracy, you can assign representatives in general or by topic or by individual decision or choose yourself on the same degrees of default vs override.

    This works well across levels too. Assign someone you trust to represent your interests and concerns on the city level and it could propagate to local to county to county to Union to continent to transnational. Or you choose different people, or decide on some topics or things for yourself.

    Pirate parties use a liquid democracy patform in multiple countries.

    There can't be a single level of democracy. You need multiple levels of local to global.

    If you have local institutions it's not very difficult to collect and distribute tax across levels.

    For crime, you certainly need strong checks and balances, across levels.

  • I find those ideas excessively unlikely.

    For a program that tortures you, or anyone, there'd be much more efficient programs, smaller programs, lower effort programs, with lower effort to implement and run.

    For a moral character test the test runs way too long. Such an unfocused waste of runtime. With so much going on, and so unfocused, can you even see the test result.

    If we want to imagine a simulation, we have to imagine excessively farther than our current development. Seems far fetched. If you're feeling doom now, how would they have gotten past many more hurdles and advancements to then go back to simulate?

    Existence is what it is. We can't define it from outside of itself, because it encompasses everything.

    I was thinking about and writing down a symbolic equivalence, but I don't think they're bringing us closer to the concept.
