I’ve always wondered, doesn’t Backblaze cut exfiltration costs to zero if you proxy it through cloudflare? Why isn’t that an option so you’re only paying for storage costs and not bandwidth?
Oh, Y’know what I misunderstood your comment. You’re not wrong, it was just worded in such a way that I read it like “people will pay a child for being called the n word” and thought it was rage bait.
They likely go with HP because their HP rep convinced them it was a better option than Dell, tbh. Most places I’ve worked were fine with me rerouting hardware to my trunk instead of the bin, so it never hurts to ask. But yeah if you’re removed from that particular team it’d be an awkward conversation for sure so I don’t blame you for not asking.
If they’re replacing them, doesn’t that mean they are binning the replaced devices? Why would the company care if you take the device home without the drive? Are they getting a kickback from the recycling company?
If a child is immediately presented with potentially incorrect/actively harmful information as fact from a “trusted source”, that’s a problem.
Should parents be teaching their child that the information can be wrong? Yes. But a lot of parents also take that information as gospel. Hell, I know lots of IT peeps who read off Google AI results as truth without giving it a second thought.
There’s also the fact that parents aren’t given the ability to opt their child out of the AI search results.
This also doesn’t appear to be an attempt to “won’t someone think of the children‽‽” but instead an objective look at the problems with an LLM being used in the way Google is.
Their form factor still isn’t great from what I understand. The tech isn’t properly caught up to the idea. But once it has, it’s going to be a paradigm shift in the way we interact with the digital world similar to the smart phone.
True AR? Absolutely not a bad idea, are you kidding me?
Take out the ability to record stealthily and they’re a great idea. Overlay art on walls, place monitors in your real space, do work on a laptop with the screen off, put directions in the actual world so you’re not looking at a screen, and that just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Don’t let the tech conglomerates ruin an amazing tech concept.
First, those are likely “third shift” products. The Chinese company that’s making the original product does more than ordered, and off the books. Slap a different sticker on it, and you can sell it without worry of it being caught as a counterfeit.
Secondly, there is something to be said of going through the original manufacturer. They have warranties, and actually care about their name so will go to some extent to support you if something goes wrong.
Now is that worth doubling the price? Not likely. But it’s something to keep in mind.
Satellite internet is extremely important for certain regions of the world. Good luck running anything to remote areas like Alaska, or areas of northern Canada.
It’s an extremely important piece of infrastructure, even if you have zero use for it.
You didn’t even bother to read the article. Literally just responding to a headline.
Good job there buddy.
