  • Except that many, many, MANY credit unions have converted to banks (or at least offering exactly the same or even lower rates than banks) but don't change the name.

    I have been screwed by my credit union a dozen times. Like me trying to open a Roth IRA with them when I was in my first year of university and they opened a CD and named it "Roth IRA" and I get like 2% interest on it.

    Ah yes, the extremely humanlike robots. 😂

    I think one difference is that men often have no support structures at all, and certainly not with levels of physical or emotional connection. They aren't just craving sex, they are craving human intimacy and connection where it is very normalized in the west among women to have emotional and physical platonic intimacy among friend support groups.

  • Crazy how that doesn't at all even address the problem of subtitle sync! It just pastes subtitles as-is in there. What if the subtitle files are at a different framerste? What if the subtitles have the wrong starting offset for the media? What if the subtitles have 1-2 mistakes in them as far as timing?

    Hence why there are a dozen subtitle syncing tool projects supplementing ffmpeg like ffsubsync, subsync, alass, autosubsync, srtsync, etc...

  • Using the integrated player. That is the only player option on android TV. On android I am also using the integrated player. If I use the web player, the same UI as the web shows up WITHOUT the subtitle offset option that is in the web player in a web browser. Not sure what the difference could be. Always burning in subtitles isn't enabled either.

  • No, I use KDE + discover which is pulling from flathub. It could very well be a Bazzite issue or something.

    I have no idea how to begin to debug that type of bug since it isn't like clicking on a spot that isn't clickable will generate an error to trace.

  • The only thing about jellyfin is the damn subtitles. Subtitle sync is horrible. They added a subtitle offset feature last year which was a good workaround and then removed it a few months ago on androidtv and android. Now the subtitle offset on the web player doesn't do anything anymore either

    Even Subgen generated subtitles, which are pretty perfectly in sync in reality, are sometimes played back at an incorrect speed so it will progressively get more and more out of sync, but there is no way to tell what speed the subtitles are being played at.

    Also it just ignores themes a lot of times or only displays themes on the admin console and nowhere else.

    That said, jellyfin is still amazing!

  • I hope this fixes the flatpak version problem of dialog windows (like edit components) having the top 10-20% of the window not clickable. Very annoying, though I can just use the properties box mostly instead.

  • Well yeah, you could do that with any PTC + resistor. That is then a circuit, not an active component. Also you would likely have to use more energy than you would gain from "amplifying" since the heat would conduct away from the target and radiate away.

    For example, if you had a photoresistor and used an LED to turn its resistance from high to low, that doesn't make the photoresistor an active component.

    Plus in the paper, the small wire + geometry is a prerequisite to do the resistance switch without melting everything.

  • Not to discredit what he did because he was probably one of the biggest impact decisions taken ever, he is definitely a great man and he deserves every ounce of credit, but he did not defy orders. They received no orders whatsoever, and the captain just assumed a war had broken out. They were too deep to receive orders at all. He refused to give his permission which was "legally" (military law-wise?) needed to launch the nukes. From your own link (also he wasn't a commander at the time):

    So it doesn't really apply. It is more one of 3 commanding officers that had a big disagreement and one of them refused to let the others give the order.

  • I had to physically log into the server (I am not using a VPS) and docker compose -f ... down the container in order for it to be solved. After a downgrade of nextcloud it was solved and the next upgrade I did, didn't experience the same issue. I ended up ditching nextcloud anyway because after an update ~8-12 months ago, the login page has never loaded since, so it can't be used. I found out I rarely used it anyway.

  • Refusing illegal orders is something that always sounds good, but never goes well even when it rarely happens in real life. Otherwise the crazy numerous war crimes and illegal things the air force kidnapping citizens human trafficked and abused by ICE because they are brown and "might be illegal" wouldn't happen.

  • There is literally no good corporate computer manufacturer anymore. Dell, HP, Lenovo, all not good.

    There are decent companies for home laptops: system76, framework, etc...

    But they don't have the support infrastructure necessary for many corporate IT departments.

  • Hey, I had a similar thing happen to me. It turns out the faulty container brought down my entire LAN network. The reason you can't ssh in is likely because your router is stuck at 100% usage trying to figure it out.

    At least that is what happened with my old Archer A7 and damn nextcloud.

  • I mean, that is an absolutely batshit insane price for storage. Backblaze is $6 per month for 1TB, and Hetzner is 4€ per month for 1TB, so literally 1000x cheaper, but you are also paying for development and the sync software.

    I almost have my company going on putting our QMS wiki on obsidian because excalidraw with clickable objects works so nicely and it can visualize our process, but for some reason commercial was showing up as 50 USD per month per user, so they couldn't justify getting licenses but now it is showing up as 50 USD per year which is way way way more reasonable.

  • So this is a 3D printed PTC thermistor. Very cool and potentially extremely useful for measuring temperatures within a housing which has never before been able to be done to my knowledge. This is potentially awesome for embedding in medical devices which by regulations cannot be above a specific temperature while in contact with the body.

    That said, there is nothing "active" about it. Thermistors are, by definition, passive electronic components. Actives amplify, rectify, or supply electric energy while passives consume, store, and release supplied energy.

    Musk effectively has unlimited access in the government now. If there was a backdoor that could be used to decrypt messages and find and target people because it is tied to a phone number, why would muskrat want to ban it? He isn't looking to man WhatsApp.

  • Crazy enough, I have everything going that I want to on my server!

    • *arr suite and jellyfin
    • traefik reverse proxy with crowdsec + bouncer for some sites (e.g. not documents or media)
    • paperless-ngx for documents
    • immich for photos
    • leantime to manage personal projects
    • Book stack for a personal wiki
    • calibre-web for my library
    • syncthing for file and music syncing so I don't have to stream music
    • valheim server for me and my friends
    • boinc for turning my server to a productive heater in the winter
    • home assistant for my in-renovation smart home

    As far as my server goes, I have everything I need. Maybe setting up something for sharing files over the web if needed. I used nextcloud for that before it killed itself completely and I realized I never really needed it.

    Next is working on my smart home because we had to fully strip the house to renovate. KNX first, zwave for things that KNX doesn't have or are crazy expensive, ESPHome for everything that the other two can't accomplish. Minimal 2.4GHz interference and don't have to rely as much as possible on flaky wireless in a brick house.

    These are the breakout boards of their respective chips.

    These chips are the 3 "multiple time programmable" chips in their line (if I have the right ones, I put them in my mouser list a while ago). Which means that once you program them, they aren't burned in with those settings and can be reused.

    There is also a "debug mode" where you don't program them at all but program all the settings after boot so that the settings are cleared again after the chip is repowered. I have never used it, but that is what the renesas rep told us during our technical call at work.

    They are super handy at getting rid of all of the logic needed for amplifiers, CC/CV circuits, etc...
