  • “getting things done”

One thing I love about my current position. I’m the guy that gets shit done, “does more work for the same pay” as you put it. But, thankfully, if I’m just not feeling it that day I just don’t, and I get no backlash. I just move slower, people see it and offer me help more than on days when I’m cruising by. No one ever asks me to do any extra work because “he’s probably already busy getting shit done”

  • I sympathize a lot with the song “Mr. Popular” by Double A-Ron. I had almost no friends my first two years, then suddenly half the school knew me my last two years. I still didn’t get invited to anything very often, and when I did no one actually wanted to interact with me. But people knew/thought that I was popular because tons of people would stop to say hi or whatever to me.

Edit to add: Actually in my last year there, one of my teachers had taken note of my “popularity” particularly with girls. Referred to me as a “modern day Casanova” and asked for advice on what gift to get his wife. I had had girlfriends but buying anniversary gifts for a wife was a bit out of my wheelhouse lol

  • Asian and Italian. I’ll go Japanese if you want more specific than Asian, ooh or maybe Thai. Hard one

  • I also use the repeated addition/subtraction method, and found that once memorizing just 3 key points, I was faster and more consistent than those that tried to memorize the tables. 65, 95 and 12*12 is all you need

  • But isn't this argument exactly what the book above is saying is false in their findings? Rescuers tended to have better relationships with their parents and given less traumatic punishments.

I suppose you could be referring to non-familial or non-violent traumas. In any case though, this would be sympathy rather than empathy. Those people are less likely to traumatize or otherwise harm a creature because they sympathize due to their personal trauma

  • And you feel like you portrayed that ideology by belittling me for not being interested in Pixelfed?

  • it'll be demonized monetized by Media.

    Agreed.

  • Wow. Not even an ad hominem, literally just blind judgement. You have no idea what interests me, and no way to tell how I have interacted with Pixelfed. You have no concept of the idea that some people are just not into the things you enjoy.

Do you have any idea just how much content is out there in the world? You could browse through a petabyte of data and it could all be boring drivel to you because there are zettabytes of data out there in the internet. Some of it is bound to bore any random individual. That doesn't preclude me from enjoying the entire rest of the internet.

You remind me of people in red hats.

  • Yeah and none of those are my niche. Not to mention, content discovery is still difficult even if you personally see things you're interested in lol

  • One of the big issues that I personally had with Pixelfed is that content discovery is kind of difficult on the platform. Sure, there's probably some pictures out there of the obscure shit I'm into. However, all I ever found on pixelfed was like landscape/nature photography and a little bit of porn

  • was dead

20k MAU can feel pretty dead, even 100k can if none of them are sharing things you're interested in.

  • 2MW also isn't much

It's a proof of concept, they're not actually trying to power anything with this. They're just checking their math on a small scale before doing the full scale lol

  • While I do agree with what you're saying, I actually think a "by women for women" instance has a slightly different impact than a "by women for women" community. There are definitely pros and cons for both, though

  • I write in markdown literally every day and I still have to edit my comments at least three times whenever I do anything other than a line break. It be like that lol

  • What do I care what language the library is written in as long as it works for what I need it do?

  • Doesn't matter what it implies. The entire purpose of programming is to make it so a human doesn't have to go do something manually.

not x tells me I need to go manually check what type x is in Python.

    len(x) == 0 tells me that it's being type-checked automatically

  • Honestly most people use Python because it has fantastic libraries. They optimize it because the language is middling, but the libraries are gorgeous

ETA: This might double post because my Internet sucks right now, will fix when I have a chance

  • Gotta use two newlines with Lemmy's markdown, else it ignores it and then your comment comes out lookin a lil goofy

But with a second newline it's fine
