  • My mom prepped my lunch for the week on Sunday. One pot of white rice, one can of SPAM, sliced and pan fried, and packets of ketchup lifted from restaurants. Lunch was rice, one slice of SPAM and a packet of rice. Prep was quick.

    Still, free school lunch like those shown in movies looked luxurious.

  • I, gen-x, as a kid in the early eighties, imagined 2026 as either a post nuclear war apocalyptic wasteland like Mad Max, or a cyberpunk dystopia like Neuromancer, Cyberpunk 2020, or Bladerunner. One of those two came true.

    I think a big part of what led to the rise of fascism in the US was the betrayal on the part of the Democrat establishment. In 2015 there was a clear popular uprising against "the establishment" highlighted by the rise of Trump and Bernie. When the DNC fucked over Bernie, Trump capitalized.
