  • That's a fair point but again, I feel like people are treating Linus comments as if he had said "all AI is welcome, we are not even coding anymore" which is what I think most people fear but not what is happening with Linux

  • Not sure what's all the fuss about what Linus said. He is not endorsing AI, he is simply saying Linux will not take a political/ideological stance about it.

If AI is useful and can submit contributions that are not slop, then so be it. IMO, AI cannot provide meaningful contributions without humans clearing all the slop first so I would expect either a ton of rejected submissions from contributors who don't know what they are doing

  • But I agree, I’d rather have a mole on the inside doing what good they can to block the march to evil.

If this person was doing that, then I would reconsider my opinion but it looks (from the post) that he was not resisting and just hoping to be around to clean some of the mess later...

The problem here is that his job is not making a bug free video game... his job is ultimately to kill people so I find it hard to accept it is OK for him to do that but just regret it a little and that means he is a good person

  • But Trump is actively trying to purge anyone who isn’t a fascist bootlicker, and if that happens Trump can literally do anything.

I believe the orange child rapist has already achieved this... what is he not allowed to do?

I understand the concept of what you are saying but this individual was not resisting at all, just begrudgingly doing what his fascist bosses told him to. He was helping fascism just as much as the bootlickers (probably more because those bootlickers tend to be incredibly inept)

  • I’m conflicted.

    Completely understandable

On one hand, I think people should leave their positions if they’re being used for evil.

We are not just talking about "evil" here as in "following orders means this washing machine will not be as reliable as I could make it". In this case we are talking about extreme cases as in "following orders means humans will be slaughtered for no reason at all"

On the other hand, how do we adequately resist fascism without people on the inside at the highest levels willing to side against the fascists when the opportunity presents itself?

Is that what is happening? because what I read was that this person disagreed but followed orders anyway, and just the slightest criticism got him canned... how was he resisting fascism in any way?

I’m not absolving this guy for anything he may have contributed to the fascist agenda, but having people on the inside to resist it is necessary. Few of those people will ever be squeaky clean.

Again, I agree but where is the evidence of ANY resistance?

  • yeap, you are 100% correct

Plus, it's not anecdotal AND goes beyond your statement.

Through the years and statistical analysis, it has been proven that picking stock, even by professionals is still mostly luck. I think analysts have ran out of ridiculous examples of animals picking stock randomly and still coming on top in a long enough time period.

So if even the "professionals" are not really doing much, why would any individual nurture the thought that THEY could do better?

  • Good to know there’s still good people in the military (1 less now, but this show they’re there).

Not sure I would say that a person that is doing something they admit to know is/was wrong "good people"

  • who can afford the best analysts and mathematical models on top of their market influence.

Why bother with that when you can just do a little inside trading during the next child raping party?

  • sure and the USA is displaying all the signs that this is a new thing you can get away with openly… but you can do the same in many other countries, some are even known for their sex tourism

  • my current retirement plan is to get a beetle and transform it into an electric cabriolet… I still have a few years to get the skills and money… assuming I can retire some day hahahaha

  • Penelope Pitstop is as good as ours!

  • Unchecked wealth that controls the government, doesn’t pay taxes, and bribes public officials to pick winners and losers is not.

That is what Capitalism is... the relentless pursuit of profit inevitably goes to what you seem to think are isolated problems.

Every economist agree you "can't just always build a better mouse trap". Building a better mouse trap is a common trope to exemplify how capitalism leads to efficiency and innovation but at some point you get to the end of the line.

You build a better trap than me, I lose business... then I build an even better one and take it back = innovation

At some point there is simply no way to build a better mouse trap, anything we do, increases the price more than the benefit of the innovation so we start making it cheaper = efficiency

Finally we reach a point where no more efficiency and no more innovation can be attained... so we either enshitify it and/or bribe a cheap gov officials to push the market my way. Cheaper to donate $10k to some political whore than risking $100K in R&D to change some law in my favour

Of course, once this path is identified, it is best to jump straight to the bribing and skip all the risky innovation and painful efficiencies

Here you may think "Hold on Jhex, I am saying to get money out of politics so no bribing allowed"

Good, if we magically, truly get all money out of politics and somehow also compensate for all biases, then capitalism does not work either because once you and I get into our high innovation / high efficiency models, nobody can ever get in the market (there is no way for them to compete) and we cannot keep forever growth which is a basic requirement of Capitalism.

In the best of theoretical models, Capitalism still ends exactly where it is right now (although it may take longer?)... barely any innovation worth while, barely any efficiency that is not entirely about me making money and fucking anything else, with most of the money in the hands of the ones who were "hard working enough" to be born to an rich family

  • honestly, I would LOVE to have the time, resources and skill to just buy this bad boy and restore/mod it

  • Is it really? I mean, just being rich opens doors everywhere... what can a rich white man do in the USA that they cannot do in Dubai or the UK or Spain? eat shittier food? gamble in piss-soaked Vegas?

  • LOL, that land of the free

    What a joke

  • hey that's only a 28 hour drive! small detour for a great sandwich!

  • at Osito's?

lol, just kidding… came here to ask the same question hoping it's in driving distance?

  • Brought to you by the most mediocre government in recent history...

Turned out those eLIteS with education had some value after all

  • I have 2, boy almost 19 and girl 15… they are the best people I know and the only thing that makes me hopeful for the future

They are and will always be the best I have done with my life
