  • Dude, AI detectors do not work and those idiots running them are increasing the harm done by AI, because now people and students have to defend themselves against AI-usage allegations. Your tool even says "confidence limited" and "We believe that this text is 100% AI", which is really idiotic.

  • Get a raspi or some thinclient. Every of those sticks I've touched was totally crap. Slow, awful software, some come with malware preloaded and the whole experience is crap. There is enough space behind your TV for a raspi.

  • Yeah, it's infuriating how much potential they are leaving on the table here. My camera has a clock to put the correct time into the exif data, but it's not possible to set up the camera so that it does take a picture every few seconds or every few minutes. That should be possible right out of the box.

  • If you've been at Reddit for a while, you recognize all those blantant bot-driven reposts. It's really something. The same old screenshot of some tweet being reposted hundreds of times. The same questions in /r/askreddit with the same old answers. Memes that are repeating on a fixed schedule. The same ragebait content enraging the second generation of a family.

  • There's also the root problem of employees having no agency to kick out misbehaving people. There's this whole "the customer is king" ethos in American commerce and this is enabling the worst people to harass people without any consequences. If you are getting kicked out and banned from most stores in your town because you are an abusive asshole, you might think again about your behavior and maybe even change. If everything that is coming from your bad behavior is that some random employee is getting fired, yes, this will enable even worse behaviour.

    • If Discord can read the device ID, every other website or program can?
    • If Discord can't and courts are forcing Microsoft to give out that data for Take2 to correlate IP adresses or other data, that is also really bad

    So the only solution is to get the fuck away from everything Microsoft.

  • I kind of like the idea. Take some pictures while doing other things like riding your bike or going on a hike without having to take out your phone. Take a quick picture while shopping to them to my wife. Get navigation cues without the phone. But they are so creepy

Why the fuck are parents buying several hundred dollars worth of spy glasses for their children and sending them to school with them without any supervision? And what the fuck is the school doing here? The first report of someone harassing other pupils with such a device should be reason to ban them and take hard discipline measures against the harrasser

  • Historian here: People "back then" had the same brains we have, were as smart as we are and also were capable of feeling the same emotions as we are. And they totally were able to love. History is full of really awesome love stories. Letters of Note is a great resource to start exploring those emotions. They also have a book simply collecting love letters and you really might want to get this. The onslaught of love from historical people writing to each others will answer your question if men could have loved women back then. Just take a look at this letter of Richard Feynman writing to his dead wife and all the love and caring oozing out of it:

    Those "traditional gender roles" the conservatives are pushing are not real. They were not real back then and are a power fantasy of bad people. There were gay people back then. And trans people. And men and women loved each others. Others were in loveless or abusive relationships. Go and read a few of those letters. They are awesome.

  • Children under a certain age are not able to sign valid contracts. Not sure about this jurisdiction (some of those laws in the US are crazy and the article is not mentioning where this is based) But in most civilized countries every lawyer should know that such an argument is silly.

  • It's not just about backups. If you discontinue the collection of certain data or mess with the data itself before publication, the whole study might get useless. Take those long-term studies researching health outcomes over decades. If you mess with the data collection there, you can't get clean data back after Trump is dead.
