Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • Why would America ban Facebook for being a "national security threat" to America lmao? Nothing about this had to do with protecting kids or the dangers of social media. Don't act like it did.

  • My eyes rolled out of my head reading this. Take a massive chill pill. Holy shit.

  • You don't see any downside to the government banning a platform people use for communication? That doesn't sound like a problem of overreach at all?

Also, you know other platforms are just gonna take its place. Reels and Shorts will still exist. Depending on how the sell goes, it's possible TikTok itself won't go away and might be unchanged as far as users are concerned.

  • Hence them saying it's braindead to say otherwise.

What would be interesting to see is if other countries ban Facebook because it's a "national security risk" lol.

  • 10k reward for info.

Isn't that standard for info on a murder? I feel like I've heard this before. Maybe it's usually "up to" 10k. Idk.

  • This post doesn't congratulate the murderer for their actions. It calls into question people's focus on this one death versus preventable ones die to denied insurance claims. This post isn't doing the thing you think it is.

  • False positives make me lose sleep because I get oaged. False negatives make me lose sleep because of the dread.

  • This is the closest thing to justice for the rich we've seen in - maybe our lives?

    That submarine popping.

  • Also, there's something like an average of 47 gun deaths per day (not sure if this site is including suicides, if it is then it's roughly half without it). But CEOs matter more than Average Joe.

  • I'm genuinely shocked that people are upset with what you're saying. Even if people believe the "95% of you are guys" comment isn't transphobic and is just weirdly presumptuous, the rest is still pretty icky behavior.

  • I cannot install Windows 11 on my computer without using a hacky work around because Windows 11 "requires" SecureBoot and TPM, but my computer doesn't even have UEFI.

  • You're absolutely right. The fact that people can work around the requirement for UEFI, TPM, and SecureBoot shows that it still runs fine on legacy BIOS. I've been saying this forever, it's like a car radio company telling car dealerships to only allow them to be installed into cars with car alarms and then claiming that the radio is secure (when the security is a feature of the car, not the radio). It's such bullshit...

  • Because physical mail can be easily opened with a warrant. Encryption can be nigh impossible to break. The idea of a vault that cannot be opened no matter how hard you try is something that scares law makers.

  • Wiping old stuff won't hurt, but they might not actually delete it.

  • Literally on Thanksgiving I pulled my work Mac out to do some stuff. It didn't know my monitor from home was unplugged. I had to find hotkeys to move windows to the current display because Settings was opening on the non existent display which it also thought was the main one.

That is to say, even macOS gets this shit wrong. There is no perfect OS.

  • I like my work Mac but I'd never buy one myself. They're extremely overpriced.

  • You could make the meme say "lemmy.ml tankies running free posting tankie bullshit" but that doesn't roll as well as "lemmy.ml doing tankie things because lemmy.ml seems to have no problem with tankies existing"

It did neither of those things though, so that's irrelevant. It just says it's a comment.

  • But just for practically, we should let 0.1 + 0.2 ≠ 0.3.

  • If you're mad at lemmy.ml users for doing those specific, detestable things, why not make make the meme to be about lemmy.ml users doing those specific, detestable things instead of any lemmy.ml user making any comment?
