  • My dog has anxiety and is taking Xanax and Prozac (I forget which exactly, and they're the generic of course) prescribed by a vet and filled at a human pharmacy.

  • I think what annoys me so much about doctors is that they charge you afterwards. If you knew what you were doing was gonna cost $500 you wouldn't have chosen to do it. They know what your insurance is. They know what they charge. But they don't tell you until afterwards.

  • I think a change in employment is a qualifying life event, so you may be able to apply for a part time job, change insurance, and immediately quit. I'd look into this more before trying it though lol. It might be considered fraud.

  • It's been nearly two months since Publix filled my prescription. At the one month mark I sent my refill to CVS instead and they filled it the next day. I have no fucking clue what's wrong.

  • I don't know. I really want people to like me. I wouldn't describe myself as attention starved, but I get upset pretty easily when I learn people don't like me. I try to be a good friend. I try to be fun. I try to be the life of the party and a social butterfly but not overstay my welcome in the limelight.

    you already use a grammatically plural pronoun to refer to individuals all the time: the word "you". It's always "you are tall",

  • I agree. It's hard to put myself back in the old mindset (and I was definitely not supportive of this type of thing back in pre-2014) but I really do think I used to use "his or her" more often than "their", or at least in more formal settings.

    I remember on Mark Rosewater's Tumblr blog he ran a Q&A (he is the lead designer of Magic: The Gathering). Someone was asking about cards using "his or her" instead of "their" because not everyone uses he/she pronouns. His response was basically that the reason they did that was because they used the Chicago style guide and it said to use "his or her" when referring to a single person of unknown gender. Basically he said that he understood players have different genders, but it was just a style thing, and that the rules even said something about "his or her" referring to the player (regardless of gender). Since then, I believe Magic cards now use "their", so it's possible Chicago's style guide changed (or at least Wizards' policy did).

  • Ohh, yeah, I think that might work. I don't really know the ins and outs of low level DNS stuff. With HTTPS that wouldn't work unless you had some sort of self signed cert on your device, but I don't think normal regular DNS traffic is encrypted at all. I see a lot of folks talk about the privacy aspect of it, so, yeah, maybe you can do that more easily.

    Is this something Pi Hole can do by itself? (With some settings on your router as well, of course, because you already have to set it as the DNS.)

  • Firewall would help, yeah, but I don't think PiHole would with a hard coded DNS server.

  • This is a weird one, but a personal pet peeve. Assuming no one is behind you and there are already some cars at a red light ahead of you, there is no reason to accelerate. Let off the gas. Coast. Sometimes the light turns green by the time your there. If you keep accelerating and stop that's just wasted gas.

  • No, they mean setting your DNS to an already existing ad blocking DNS. You do not need a oi hole to do that. See option 2 here https://adguard-dns.io/en/public-dns.html

    I do this on my router and phone. It doesn't block everything, sure, but it blocks more than you'd think. And I didn't have to fiddle with a raspberry Pi.

  • I have a theory that what we refer to as retro doesn't advance by a year every year. In the same way words like "antique" and "vintage" bring about specific time periods and aesthetics, "retro" does as well. I'm just pulling a number out of my ass here, but say it's like every three years that go by one year is added to what we call retro. That would mean it would take 15 years from the time we begin viewing SNES as retro to view PS1 as retro because they were released five years apart. So, if we say PS1 is retro now, that would mean we began to view SNES as retro in 2009. This sounds right, maybe? It's hard to put myself back in that time period, but I definitely would've called NES games retro in 2009, but SNES it's harder to say.

    This methodology is flawed because of "retro" is tied to an aesthetic or time period then at some point nothing new will ever be considered "retro" and we'd eventually begin using a different term to refer to things from later.

    A good example is "oldies" on the Radio. Nothing newer is really entering the group of songs we consider oldies.
