Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • "It's not the master branch, it's the perfect branch. The superior branch!"

  • When I first started using SVN trunk was where all the code was, so I thought it mean like a chest instead of a tree. Like "just throw it in the trunk." My first experience with it was manually installing Gmod mods so anything related to branches was lost on me because it was irrelevant. It wasn't until after I began using git and seeing people refer to subversion as "trunk based development" for a while that it finally clicked. "Oh. Like a tree trunk. With branches."

  • I don't really care if people use it, it's more that it feels like a quarter of our architect meeting presentations are about something AI related. It's just exhausting.

  • I feel like it's good to at least try every now and then. Sure, doing it over and over and believing it will always be the solution is bad, but the reality is we can't see the shape of our holes or the shape of our solutions.

  • I have a theory that it's partly because a bunch of older StackOverflow answers have more votes than newer ones using new features. More referring to not using relatively new features as much as it should.

  • The people talking about AI coding the most at my job are architects and it drives me insane.

  • Not saying it's bad or not, it's just a bad comparison. It's implying it looks like crap, but the alternative is not what's on the left. The alternative is what's on the left with no blooms or leaves.

  • I don't like aggressive pruning but it's not done while they're in bloom. Mine is taking over the sidewalk so I need to do this, but it's also not flowering or even has leaves at the moment.

  • I swear every time I work with docker I've got to check the manual. It's got some of the least intuitive commands.

  • Ermmm actually you "just believe" the earth is round. /s /most obvious s

  • Yeah it's so dumb. Cats obviously don't think the things over ten times their size that walk on a different amount of legs are the same as them.

Further, another "fun fact" I see a lot (equally questionable) is that cats meow only to communicate with humans, not cats. But that's mutually exclusive with cats thinking humans are the same as them.

  • I don't buy this because cats will react totally differently to cats than people. Regardless of posture. If my cat sees someone walking down the street she doesn't get angry. If my cat sees a cat outside she's already on the defense.

  • My state passed ID verification for adult websites, does that count?

  • I remember using 3 on Windows 7 in like 2015. That's crazy. And I think I could open the laptop to get 4. This was an IBM Thinkpad with a dock. I wonder if USB C and dongles have made it harder somehow?

  • I'm shocked you have a choice at work.

  • My thoughts entirely. One of my favorite ironies is The Washington Post saying "Democracy Dies in Darkness" as they prevent you from reading their news article without having a subscription.

  • When I used Reddit I got news from there. If news sites weren't so fucking atrocious to use I might browse them directly. Plus, it's not like legitimate news isn't shared on social media. AP is generally considered pretty unbiased and reliable and they have a TikTok account.
