  • the only decent version of Windows

Please stop romanticising Win 10 just because it's less shitty than 11. There is no decent Windows.

    Reminder: Win 10 introduced

    • mandatory telemetry (you can only choose between some telemetry and firehose telemetry)
    • a built-in keylogger
    • built-in advertising
    • aggressive nag screens containing dark patterns trying to trick users into "upgrading"
  • Oh, is that why they integrate it into every single piece of productivity software?

  • I came for from this.

  • YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET THAT CAPS LOCK KEY FIXED, MATE!

  • I can't see why somebody objecting to TrueNAS flirting with closed source would want to switch to a fully proprietary system like Unraid.

  • Not if we're talking Jim Cramer, who is well beyond 70%.

  • Dear police,

to find out where the perpetrators took the stolen goods, just monitor for rapid regional upticks in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

  • AI can [...] be completely wrong. But that happens maybe 10% of the time.

Where are you pulling your numbers from, mate? The figures I've seen so far start somewhere >40% and go all the way up to 70%.

  • Oh no!

    Aaaaanyway...

  • ...which is precisely why I'm not on your system. ;)

  • Never mind, Microslop! Yes, the account is the cherry on top of the shitcake, but there's still plenty of shitcake underneath. Piss-poor performance, arbitrary hardware requirements artificially rendering perfectly capable hardware obsolete, aggressive ads user nudging everywhere, the push towards AI slop and the looming threat of Recall are also major factors driving people away. So don't bother. This train has left the station, and it's leaving you behind for good.

  • Good. Enshittify to your heart's content, until people realise that just sucking a different big tech corp's tit is not the solution.

  • Not really. Disney management has drunken the same Koolaid as any other management right now: they believe they can fire large parts of their staff and replace them with "AI", allowing them to achieve similar or even greater productivity at a fraction of the cost (i.e. whatever fee "open"AI charges). To achieve that, they need to give Sora access to their characters (so it can be trained to produce Disney movies) and invest in the company (as a down payment; money that would be recuperated by eliminating workers from the equation).

  • So at what point do they ban all new computers not made domestically?

    FTFY. It's the same thing.

  • Spoiler: this is about long-range and military grade munitions. So don't worry. Next week's school shooting can take place as scheduled.

  • I wonder if AI girls get charged extra for their manicure... and if the DoD covers the expenses for her war claws. Somebody post a FOIA request!

  • Does it really matter? These people were detached from reality long before AI was a thing. These are the people who swallowed horse dewormer to fight off a virus, stormed the capitol to hang their own party's VP over election fraud that never happened (but that they are now actively preparing themselves), and attacked a pizzeria to save children from the clutches of pedophiles (all the while ignoring their idol's ties to, and probably involvement with the crimes of, pedophile child trafficker Epstein).

We must come to grips with the fact that a significant part of the U.S. population is living in an alternative, media-generated universe. Baudrillard would be laughing his arse off if he could see it. The question is: how to deal with that.

  • Fair enough.
