  • people spend a third of their lives on those things. And while cumbersome, a big screen simply is better for media consumption

only way I see smaller phones make a comeback is if we change our habits or if a new technology comes along

  • Lemmy was created by a tankie, many of whose opinions I abhor.

As long as it's FOSS and doesn't inherently promote their beliefs, I will use the software.

I agree it's not great and I'd prefer if it weren't made by imbeciles

  • Airvpn, or Azirevpn if you're ok with few servers

Of those I've only used Azire, and it worked well. I've seen Airvpn recommended often though

  • I think I remember him endorsing signal years ago which gave it at big boost at the time

  • most likely yes.

My point is, if youtube customizes the feeds based on the IPs, then the youtube accounts used are not really "fresh" but there's already some data entered into the profiles upon their creation.

  • fresh YouTube account

change their location to a random city in the US

yeah but you're still bound to IP addresses. I was under the impression Youtube used those for their profiling

  • kind of a dick move to leave your friend in a wheelchair when you're jesus

  • oh my god, Vvardenfell, absolutely. the volcanic island from Morrowind

I'm old and I still imagine being a Telvanni mage when I'm having trouble falling asleep

  • I still use yt-dlp to download because I don't understand Freetube's options. It's either only audio or video

Also if you're on Linux and you get a white screen during playback (has been an issue since 0.22) this fix works for me: freetube --enable-features=''

edit: posting a vertical pic messes up the webpage a bit. If it's annoying tell me

  • How does that work? The lab puts you in contact with people they know share your DNA?

  • Escape Velocity Nova

    • frontpage by default is too old (sometimes 2+ days)
    • better search
    • maybe it's just me but my tiny brain refuses to learn clicking on a title brings me to the comments and not the article. an option would be nice
    • filters based on tags
    • can mods post comments next to a title? this can be very helpful (e.g. "misleading?")
  • his payrise is equivalent to something like 3000 US workers minimum wage annual salaries

if my math is correct (which it probably isn't)

  • google captcha that will 100% fail the first time no matter how careful I am, sorry I can't do it anymore, especially if I don't know what I'm opening

and hasn't it be established bots can solve those now and it's just about the money?

  • I loved xprivacy_lua

You could hide almost everything. No app knew the other apps I used.No app had clipboard access. when I needed to paste something I used Xposed Edge. You could spoof a lot of info, GPS coordinates, IMEI ... The list goes on.

support stopped. I should check if there's a fork.

edit: AOSP permissions have improved and I now use almost exclusively FOSS apps, so I'm not worried, but I still miss the app.

    edit2: there's a fork: https://xdaforums.com/t/xpl-ex-xprivacylua-ex-android-privacy-manager-hooking-manager-extended.4652573/
