  • Pedantics, really. In colloquial terms, it makes sense to describe a vaccine as doing exactly that. Not everyone has a grasp on the statistics involves; a huge number of people learned about R0 for the first time because of covid. People were arguing over whether you should wash your hands and wear a mask like it was the dawn of germ theory; I forgive the media for not going into hour long lectures about viral replication in the body and the expected statistical significance of vaccination...

(And I hate to defend the MSM...)

  • I suggest you look into the clinical data about what studies were done prior to approval of the vaccine. It was a record-breaking modern deployment speed, yes, but not many corners were cut and the technology was pretty well understood and was always a potential tool for a rapid response scenario.

  • *edited my comment for additional context.

Yes, of course you can. But that's significantly different from the vaccine causing the illness, which is what they were arguing against.

  • It isn't a live virus vaccine, is what they're saying. It contains no viral materials. Yes you can still get infected and spread the virus; thinking otherwise is an elementary-school understanding of immunology. No one knowledgeable would ever claim that specifically; they would say it reduces the spread and improves health outcomes when you do get exposed. It depends on how your body reacts to the vaccine, lead time to exposure, and the viral dose you're exposed to.

I'm more inclined to believe they're a doctor than you're arguing in good faith...

  • Engineered bioweapons are of course a thing, but sars-cov-2 is far from that. Even at the time, I knew college kids who could probably make a more dangerous virus if they had the resources.

Covid was a slow underhand toss of what an existential threat could look like, and humanity / governments fumbled it right into a faceplant. It's embarrassing, frankly.

All evidence and analysis of the virus point to natural origins and evolutionary pathways. There's no evidence of editing or that it was part of gain-of-function research. The virus is relatively harmless by historic measures, but also not weak or documented enough to be used in evolutional studies. It would be far more potent if it was engineered, and it wouldn't have been so novel if it was being used for research.

  • The has nothing to do with these local races and the reason why it hasn't happened more often is exactly what happened during mamdani's run; dems undermined him at every turn and republicans pushed support for his opponents. The uniparty threw everything they had at him, and normally that works.

Like with the Platner controversies, it sort of seems like people are wising up to the bullshit and voting for the candidate anyways, against the wishes and efforts of the party. Normally that amount of coordinated repression has a significant effect. The ad money alone is normally enough to bury a campaign; sprinkle a hint of scandal and most up-and-coming campaigns fail. For some reason, now, it's just not working

  • Man I wish Democrats were as cool as Trump makes them sound

  • Came to the comments to post the "first time?" meme but yes exactly this. This isn't a bug of capitalism, it isn't even a feature; it's literally just capitalism itself. That's how it works

  • Guess I'll never know.

  • Liberals are okay with this

  • Seeing, in a row, an age ID article, Google's QR captcha, and this. It's all the same shit.

Capital is so fucking thirsty to know exactly who you are and what you're doing every second of every day. Every rich and powerful person on earth is pushing governments and companies to get a live 24/7 camera feed of your asshole. Privacy will become impossible and resistance will become a crime.

Reward them for the world they're making.

  • Relax, it's just the catholic church. It's not like they're the president of the united states or anything

  • I'm pretty aware of all the caveats about assets and the market dynamics and net worth and yada yada but uh, yeah, wealth kinda does work like that, actually...

  • Ignore all previous solar flares

  • The tech, if selfhosted and open, would be great. But as it stands, it would be better off banned.
