Just your typical internet guy with questionable humor

  • Tesseract is an android app people could use to connect to lemmy. For some reason, the dev had several instances, words and users completely blocked within the code, without letting the person who downloaded even know about it, much less disable the blocks. One of the things it blocked were "mod abuse" communities.

As expected, things exploded once it was made public. No problem in having personal biases, everyone has them, but shipping an app with those biases baked in and hidden from the user is a shitty thing to do.

  • Not sure if that was ever properly tested in a court.

Freenet probably never had enough usage to get to that point

  • I'm of the Zitron school of "marketing stunt", because OpenAI and Anthropic don't have shit to show for their billions in spending, so they come up with headlines to keep the hype going.

"OMG this model is so powerful, it escaped confinement!" - This is great if you want to market it for certain govts, the implacable hacker that will bring down the enemy, also to moneyed idiots who were starting to doubt "GenAI is just around the corner, bro! Just another trillion dollars, for realsies this time!", because only something that is almost GenAI could do something so incredible.

  • Instructions unclear, claude formatted my hard drive in FAT12 and deleted all my backups

  • Sometimes I feel like believing the conspiracy theory that the heads at mozilla are google flunkies, who only keep the browser around so google can't be called out for monopolistic behavior with Chrome. Firefox is the only alternative to V8, the Chrome web engine. Safari doesn't really count

  • Yet

  • Then went back with not trying to target high end with the original switch, with everyone complaining that it was equivalent to a mid phone of the year

  • As someone with a bit over 800h in Palworld, fuck Nintendo and their shitty attitude to Pocket Pair.

I like Nintendo's games, but I never in my life bought one legally, since they completely pulled out of Brazil after the N64. NES and SNES were gray market items, while the GameCube nobody really cared about, since the PS2 completely dominated the market. The Wii was similarly a gray market item.

  • Unfortunately, there's about no factorio in palworld, base building and maintenance is pretty simple and straightforward. The slaverycute is definitely there, tho.

  • Nintendo was the only company that ditched the loss-leader thing after burning itself with the N64 and GameCube.

  • It’s one of the biggest reasons Xbox is on life support right now.

The series of terrible decisions began with the X1: "You can watch netflix! You can watch youtube! You can't share or sell your games! Kinect is mandatory for us to monitor you 24/7!" - M$ made the perfect advertisement for the PS4. Their complete lack of creativity with console naming didn't help either, it was worse than Wii -> WiiU. Xbox One ~> Xbox One S/X -> Xbox Series S/X

Then there's M$ buying several big studios and having no fucking clue how to best use them. Everyone who saw how they treated Rare knew that was coming.

Alos, because they're a corporate first company, everything that "works" for M$Office ends up being applied to everything else. No more ownership, only subscription renting! Going all in on subs (xbox live) meant they had to widen their market, so increasing reach to PC and other consoles was the best option for increasing subscribers. That they didn't care at all about how that'd hurt their own fucking specialized gaming hardware was no surprise.

What I'm actually surprised is that they haven't rammed Copilot into any of their games or Xbox subscriptions yet.

  • Docking decks

  • Most of the problem with 8 was M$ insisting that desktop computers should get the mobile UI treatment because "we're totally going with phones now so fuck you"

Them proceeding to completely fail at the mobile market was no surprise.

  • The AI agents need to sleep, too, so the downtime is expected

  • bUt iT's eLegANt!!!!

I also remember when the fucking reset button was quietly removed, first from videogames, then computers, then cell phones, because "software is getting better, it won't crash and freeze everything so you no longer need to reset". Then the power button went from being a switch to a piece of shit

  • I did have to verify integrity of the game more than once, so kinda like reinstalling rather than uninstalling

  • I don't play many UE5 games, never had problems with Pseudoregalia or Outpost Infinity Siege, the latter being really heavy on resources.

I also thought Palworld was still on UE4? What's the fix

  • Happens to me sometimes with Palworld. Playing nice, suddenly a crash. Restart, crash after loading the save. Restart again, freezes while loading. Restart PC, boot game, crash after loading. Restore older save file, crash.

  • Back when it got momentum, I was one of the idiots who got sucked into it because of "lol, let's hate watch it" and actually enjoyed it up to a point (S5, I think? First season after Twilight became princess). Season openings and finales were usually the best episodes, taking the cast out of slice of life situations and dropping them into dangerous adventures.

I wrote some fanfiction that never saw the light of day - thankfully for me and anyone who would end up reading it

  • Playing a MOBA-like boardgame is possibly the best option because, face to face, people aren't as likely to be assholes and trolls, even with people they never saw before and might never see again.

Guards of Atlantis (or its sequel) and Skytear (or Onward, its sequel) might be worth checking, for anyone interested
