  • The George Flloyd protests were bigger and not just a single day. I'd put that as more active than No Kings on the single day. Regardless, this shouldn't even be a debate. It should be unequivocal that protests should be larger and more frequent than anything in American history. Anything short of that is a failure.

  • At this point the rest of the world has to assume that everything is A-OK with America, and this is the America we need to plan to deal with going forward.

    The American people (as a whole) have given us no sign that they are anything more than mildly concerned about the situation.

    Please spare me the "but protests" and "I have a family" BS. The last No Kings should have been, far and away, the biggest protest in US history. It was not even close. Almost triple the amount of people came out, for (can you believe it) Earth Day in 1970.

    The US is so, so far from where they need to be to stop this, and I'm 100% positive that when people start throwing their lives at this problem, it will be far too late.

  • Yeah I hear you. Don't let the world turn you into an angry husk though. I've been there so I get it.

    Maybe a social media break would do you some good. I've done a few and it really helps. When I come back I'm less angry and frustrated, and able to just take pity on people more than being angry with them.

    Keep making arr. Lots of it. The good stuff comes out when you're in spaces like this, you just need to be sure not to be consumed by it.

  • I can't speak for anyone else, but I wonder how much of that is "you guys need to do something more than protest" being interpreted as "go out and kill people".

    There is more that can be done that doesn't involve violence. But every time it comes up, there is some excuse for why it can't be done.

    Lots of Canadians, like me, are frustrated and tired of watching America sleepwalk into full blown fascism. And while I respect people for protesting, I'm at the same time appalled that this was not the largest protest in US history.

    So good on everyone who tried but shame on you as a nation if that is the best you can do.

  • Exactly. Wow at least one American that gets it. Mostly. The part where elections happen is for some reason a big mental block that almost everyone seems to have. You keep hope I guess but no way is that happening on this trajectory.

    That's why I said "you better get phone numbers", ir the protest itself is toothless, so hopefully everyone was making the most of it.

    I fucking love seeing all the downvotes when reality bites. Just so you know, downvoting on social media is not going to save your country, and your eternal optimism (read: blatant naivety) will be....nay, IS... your downfall.
