  • Someone assassinated the CEO of an American health insurance company with a silenced pistol after an investors meeting. Apparently the company is famous for turning down people's requests for treatment while the guy had a yearly salary in the undreds tens of millions.

  • I hope you did it in a professional and not a recreational manner.

  • It could be used for other things like district heating at least.

  • I'm glad you made it!

  • How did you do it? Must be crazy to look back at it with all the things that happened in mind.

  • I don't think there are any other Instances aside from the default bsky.social‬ right now. It's only federated in theory and essentially a closed platform until that changes. Pretty sad that it gets all the attention instead of Mastodon.

  • I've watched an 18 minute video of an Indian scammer talking to an answering machine randomly repeating one of like 10 pre-recorded voice lines. This one is most likely much better and will steal hours of their time.

  • Also for a lot of people, their social circle is partly there.

I get that, but at this point I'd actively try to get them to use a different site/app. I managed to move large parts of my friend group and my whole family to Signal. I'm now trying to get some to transition from Discord to Matrix, though moving there has definitely been not as smooth.

It should be much easier with Twitter, there are a bunch of very similar and usable alternatives. You just have to put in some work and convince people with solid arguments and support.

  • There are a lot of leftists still "fighting the good fight" on Xitter, even if the platform is pitted against them and all they do is drive engagement to it. I never understood why some people can't bring themselves to leave. I left reddit for much less.

  • Nope, Lemmy is just the software after all. It would be up to the individual instances to set up some kind of TOS or age verification.

  • I've never even used AOL mail and I still know exactly what the notification sounds like.

  • Regulations on fossil fuels have become very strict in Europe and any manufacturer wanting to sell there is going to maximize aerodynamics. Not to mention the increased range for electric cars. Most people still view cars as utilities, they care more about how far it can go on one charge instead of cool angular designs.

  • Modern cars are designed in wind tunnels. We'll never get the cool designs back.

  • The problem is not that the deer was hit, a human driver may have done so as well. The actual issue is that the car didn't do anything to avoid hitting it. It didn't even register that the deer was there and, what's even worse, that there was an accident. It just continued on as if nothing happened.

  • The poster, who pays Tesla CEO Elon Musk for a subscription to the increasingly far-right social media site, claimed that the FSD software “works awesome” and that a deer in the road is an “edge case.” One might argue that edge cases are actually very important parts of any claimed autonomy suite, given how drivers check out when they feel the car is doing the work, but this owner remains “insanely grateful” to Tesla regardless.

How are these people always such pathetic suckers.

  • They're not all permanent, Lemmy displays the duration in the mod log. I agree that there should be some kind of notification though.

  • Source?

  • I've got loads of respect for anyone willing to sift through 9 years of Trump speeches without turning insane.

  • I'm sorry but this is very clearly the flag of Luxembourg.
