  • They really value your privacy though. They've extensively vetted each and every one of them. Only the bestest of friends get to gorge on your data!

I don't understand how the data broker market works. There are thousands and thousands of these companies all selling the same data they hold on you. Surely if all 1750 of them gather the same stuff it would become essentially worthless?

  • I had the exact same plan, luckily I had a couple of other 1TB drives lying around I've made a RAID from. but i took a screenshot of the drives I wanted when I bought my first 4TB drive, and then I looked at them again 11 months later...

Lower price is from 06/25 and the other is 05/26.

  • No, I just don't think the size of the party is the thing we should criticise/make fun of it for. They're clearly influential enough to snap up a big sponsor, and will now decide to actually try and run for parliament. UKIP was never large enough to get elected into parliament afaik, but they still managed to influence politics enough to cause brexit.

  • I mean, yeah they are a shit party, but isn't smaller and local parties kinda what we want? I'd rather have a 20 small parties in parliament than 2 big ones with some on the side lines.

  • I haven't seen the other comments, but dont worry, I got what you meant 😄

  • Scalping gift cards. Now that is a million dollar idea! (in debt)

  • Achtuhally you're standing on the bottom of the ocean as soon as you take a step in the water

  • That's quite neat honestly. I dont think I would use it to communicate proper data (like the blood oxygen example), but i like the market trend examples.

  • The internet wasn't built for bots though? It was a way to connect universities to make it easier to share research and information and make it robust enough that it could function if some nodes were lost. Never have a heard automation was a foundational part of it.

  • I'm curious as well. My knowledge is probably quite outdated, but from what I understood the training part is what's expensive and then querying the model is pretty cheap. Is it still true (or was it ever) that the generated answers on search engines are cheaper to generate than the actual search results?

  • I assume for the college level students it's who can mark the level of the water most accurately? I certainly hope all of them would at least mark the water line horizontal to the ground

  • When in hear AI I usually just think neural network. NNs are fantastic in many science applications such as protein folding and categorising tissue samples. People really should not conflate LLM slop with the broader use of neural nets.

  • It is very poverty stricken. There's plenty of dangerous/sketchy characters if you go looking for it. Clearly quite drugged people are everywhere. Young kids with the iconic gray tracksuit and balaclavas racing about on bikes. Closed shops and signs of attempts at reviving the city are abundant. Me and a friend walking down the main street saw this really odd shop. It was the size of a moderate clothes shop, but it was like stripped down to the concrete, no music, little to no shelving, just random products stacked on the floor on pallets. Things like microwaves, bbqs, fans, and such. A couple of guy were eyeing us the entire time. What my friend told me is that's a store for things "that fall off a lorry".

Edit: I should add though that the city as a whole is surprisingly low on actual crime. I think it has a pretty decent community mindset. Just don't go to Pillgwenlly :P

  • My parents came to visit me in Wales. They suggested we go to Newport to look around. I just answered "Hm, let's not". There's just such an odd feeling walking around that city.

  • Oh yeah. Tbf, I had the same thought when I read the post as well. "This is very big brother, but good?"

  • Except you own everything generated by yourself and you're not being exploited for someone else's profit.

  • Oooh, now I'm curious which one it is that makes sense!
