  • When I briefly lived in China one of the first things expats would ask is if you've tried KFC yet. I don't eat meat but almost every Westerner I met raved about how much better fast food is in china.

    I used to get fast food fries occasionally in Australia, then stopped when I moved to the US cause the quality was much worse. I started again Taiwan.

  • Well completely unrelated is maybe an overstatement.

    English and Chinese is the common example of unrelated "mama"s, but there is a non zero chance that they are distantly related - beyond the time depths accessable by the comparative method of linguistics.

    It could be that "mama" or a very similar word dates back to like Ancient North Eurasians or some older population ancestral to both Chinese and English speakers.

    If any one word could survive that long, some form of "mom" is a good candidate, but yeah the most popular theory is that something about the "m" sound makes it more likely to be in the word mama.

    One held the cat close to their body, securing the front paws against the cat with one hand and securing the head with the other hand. You have to secure the back hips against you with your arm or elbow.

    The other pushed the pill into the cat's mouth, held it shut and stroked the throat.

    After a few months the cat realized struggling wasn't worth the effort and only tried to claw our faces off if we got complacent.

    This is a very unlikely situation.

    These stories of nefarious liars abusing poor defenseless corporations would be publicized widely if true. We'd have prominent, well known examples.

    This needs people who think the threats and reputational damage of being a whistleblower are worth it for the 'recognition', who are smart enough to construct a believable sounding claim but not smart enough to see the inevitable consequences. That specific kind of person is going to be much rarer than people who work for a legitimately shitty company and don't like it.

    The best possible combo of far back and wide reach is probably Akkadian cuneiform. Maybe you could get further back with Sumerian cuneiform and trust that it'll get translated once Akkadian becomes the lingua franca.

    Oracle bone script which becomes Chinese characters probably doesn't get you as far back and maybe not as wide an area, but definitely much longer in time since it's basically still in use.

    The only problem is those are both languages of imperial systems and giving them greater power is probably a net loss for humanity.
