  • Ouch. I'm used to "do you feel old" posts being relatable, but the black theme on the computer tower and the 700mb disc hurt me. I remember feeling sci-fi as fuck when I finally got rid of my old off-white/beige tower for a black tower, and scoffing at the idea of removable media holding more than a few mb of data.

  • The loss of trust is real. I was a phd student doing computer science until this year; my school kowtowing to fascists was the last straw for me. I will have nothing to do with these fucking government contractors who get cheap labor by pretending to also be places of education, as if working a dhs grant for 4 years on a $29k stipend is anything other than illegal sub-minimum wage labor. I've come to the realization that getting a phd is nothing more than a measure of how much you will prostrate yourself to an abusive system; it has little to do with intelligence or expertise.

  • I had to be at the mag lab in Tallahassee semi regularly during my undergrad, where they would demonstrate the magnetic levitation of a frog from time to time. The place had systems with cryo pressure high enough to turn an improperly sealed hatch into a very deadly projectile for anybody unlucky enough to be in the same room
