  • Shame they aren't doing those things. Steam doesn't need 30% of the profits just for hosting the downloadable file.

Fact is we need some hard regulations for all digital stores, especially when it comes to gaming but we will never get them because a large number of consumers are dead set on defending one of those stores.

You can't clamp down on Microsoft for stealing from their customers (both devs and gamers) while steam, who's making even more profits, gets a free pass.

  • Gabe has a very good PR team. Don't you remember all the "Gabe plays video games too" articles? Staying out of the spotlight isn't the same as being a good person.

If he was a good person, he would be using his wealth to help society instead of owning more than a billion worth of boats. If he was a good person tbh, he'd close the spigot a bit so more profit would go to devs but he takes his fat cut like all the other store owners.

  • The second part of my first paragraph is sarcastic. I realize I worded it weirdly.

That being said, they need us upset so it's easier to pass laws that make developing AI models impossible for smaller players.

Most are begging for stronger copyright laws. It's nuts.

  • Hugging face open sourced a dataset every big AI company already has privately. We need to get mad about this because hugging face is the last target to take down, to finish the regulatory capture started at the behest of openAI and company.

Even if scrapping GitHub was made illegal, does anybody here really think the money would go to them and not Microsoft?

It's data brokers and the copyright mafia vs open source and you guys are choosing to root for the former?

  • You don't need consent. It's better to have an open dataset, since all the big AI companies have their own private dataset anyways (which isn't opt-out).

So it starts I guess. Hugging face holds basically all the open source data and models, the government will start going after them now that they are getting copyright wins. It's regulatory capture. They are doing it at the behest of big AI companies to kill the competition.

  • Are they actually asking for phone numbers now?

  • They are only doing one segment of users at a time and I'm guessing their metrics are telling them 90% of those users don't play ball and just stop visiting. I'm guessing they might go back on it in a bit.

  • Your whole account and username is based on hating AI but it's the other side that's in a cult?

Fact is there's has been a media campaign being run since it started so gen pop would clap and cheer when big AI companies capture the market with regulations. You just responded to it.

I'll keep using it to lighten my work load at work and spend more time fucking around. Hopefully, Big AI loses even if they have your help.

  • It's a terrible prompt too. They just spammed it with "make the most money possible". Complex tasks need complex harnesses and multiple agents.

  • Can't find the app guys. Where is it? Bruh. Help me someone, my girlfriend is coming home and I don't want to get mocked for the same thing two days in a row.

  • Yes, it exasperates the problem but that's my point, it isn't the problem. Trump is literally investing in coal plants. Expecting our energy consumption to stay flat forever is not a solution.

You see the same argument spring up with evs. Evs aren't the ones burning coal even if that's what the oil companies were pushing a year ago.

We need a strong grid built on renewables and it should have been started a long time ago.

  • Don't fall for this bullshit. The cunt in charge is literally closing down renewable projects left and right.

The constant bribes and corruption are what is slowing down the shift. This is scapegoating.

We need regulations for datacenters and all, and it isn't helping, but this is transparent propaganda.

  • Look at all the comments that came to steams defense. And yours, trying to like tease me? Lol.

You might think I'm wrong when I say there isn't much difference between steam and the others, but I'm not wrong when I say Steam is the internets darling. You're here literally proving me right, thank you for letting me know about it.

  • It's okay but I would really love if I was able to filter by video, picture, article link or text post.

Sometimes, I'm really looking for interesting text posts and discussions to read and it would be nice to skip the memes and all that.

  • There's no headache with PC gaming, this isn't the 90s. You can plug a computer into a tv and use a controller.

  • "What's something the internet constantly gives a free pass to and simps for but should enrage people" wasn't the question. The internet is overall much more a defender of steam than the opposite.

The downvotes are kind of proving me right lol.

  • I'm okay with using AI to find child abuse as long as we have human verification at the end. It's more of a privacy issue for me, like how google runs their detection models in private drives and then autobans, very easy to get false positives I imagine.

  • They mostly are interchangeable for most people but almost none of the llm weights are properly open source.

They don't always give the training scripts and never the actual data so it isn't reproducible. The data isn't really feasible to give. A lot of them release papers at the same time where they explain the training with snippets and how it works, but it's not the same as receiving a script.

That being said, some get really upset and stress the distinction but it's a bit silly imo. If it's free and easily fine tunable, I don't really see the issue of calling it open source. Giving the data for it would open them up to lawsuits from the copyright mafia and wouldn't bring much to the table. Training these models is completely out of reach for individual and small to medium sized organisations.

Training a small model was more than a million dollars in compute a year or two ago.
