    It does seem to be. So, I find it weird that the "core" documentation leads a new user to installing AIO.

    You could also try OpenCloud, which is a Go rewrite of ownCloud.

  • You need to understand the difference between a docker run command, and detaching to run a container in the background. Just running it with ‘run’ keeps it in the foreground.

    Yes, I understand this. I was just highlighting that it's not a great experience for a new user to follow the instructions to setup a server and be left with it running in the foreground.

    Thanks! This should get me past my current hurdle so I can do some more testing. Again - not a great experience to have to come to a forum to get help to find a passphrase. I'm pretty sure I didn't miss any steps?

    Lastly, if you’re not familiar with containers, and this is a single purpose machine, you’d be better off just running the bare project on the host. If there’s no need for containerization, just skip it.

    I'm familiar with containers, but think they're overused. Stupid little things that are a single Python script (for example) shipping as a Docker image! But, I thought Nextcloud was complex enough to be worthy of a container? This is not a single purpose machine, but I'm an old, retired, sysadmin - I have no problem running a few different servers on the same host.

    Are you referring to the "Archive" Community Project installation method?

  • As an Australian living in Canada, I'm far from an expert on this stuff, but it seems to me the main benefit of something like this is visibility - he had (I believe) 10s of millions of views over the various platforms it was streaming on. Hopefully some of those people were not previously engaged and now are. It's a start.

  • Not just French companies, companies in multiple EU countries (from the article). And it's only applicable if they want to do business with the US. This behaviour is pretty normal for them - they used to have policies about not buying from companies that used child labour, or didn't enforce DEI etc. They're just enforcing a different set of standards for their suppliers now.

    I'm not saying it's not messed up, just that it's not unusual and shouldn't surprise anyone.

  • Yeah, I can accept that. I guess what really meant was fuck the current Dems that are so clearly complicit in whatever the GOP is doing and maybe even more Zionist. If they can be overhauled to the point they can, and do, get big money out (repeal citizens united), repair all the gerymandered districts etc. then sure - go Dems. I know that's a huge ask, but it's what's needed.

  • I'm Australian but don't live there. It worries me how far right it's getting. Australia being a very sporty place means transgender people in sport is a huge wedge that the Nazis can use. I've had to "disown" a bunch of family - including my mother, who I thought I learned my values from!

  • Same - just as I started watching he was saying the democrats had weaponised law enforcement against their political opponents, on the day that said he would crack down on political opponents in universities. (I know he's abusing law enforcement in many other ways - it just struck me that the that the university protest crack down was one of the big stories of the day. Such a stark example of "every accusation is a confession")

It seems every time I have to call some call centre these days, when I finally get to a human the conversation starts something like "I've just spent 40 fucking minutes trying to get to talk to a person and I'm really pissed off. I know that's not your fault and I apologise in advance if I struggle to contain my frustrations while we talk. Now.."

  • This is me too. I'm still on Facebook for some family contacts and a couple of useful groups. Years ago I could spend hours a day there. Now I spend maybe 15-30 minutes each morning scrolling for friend/family updates and group content - and hitting "Hide all from ..." on every single bit of unsolicited content. I was reporting and blocking them, but I've decided it probably doesn't achieve anything and it was too many taps/clicks.

    Instagram is similar - I used to spend hours there too but now I only go to check if there's progress on one car build I'm following and scroll for maybe 5-10 minutes and I'm out for the day.
