I'm a human being, god damn it. My life has value.

  • I left a few years ago, but by then it had changed a lot. Seattle has always been a boomtown, and I think it's more my style during the busts.

In this new place I haven't had time to find a crowd, too busy being dad. Most of England feels like the rundown side of a gold rush though, all faded glory. Works for me.

  • I only insist on this point of grammar for myself and to my kid, who is still young enough to need instruction on grammar.

As a matter of style, I don't prefer there're in written form, but it's fine spoken. But yes, I do stand on the point even with contractions.

  • Hahah! I hadn't even heard of Center School, I was up in Wallingford. Your neck of the woods was definitely cooler than mine.

  • There are vague cases. A band could be a singular entity or a group of countable members, and whichever you use would come with a shading of connotation about that. "The band are all upset about this deal... The band isn't taking its roadies for granted."

  • The one thing I will insist on is the use of is/are. It's pretty simple, if referring to a countable set, use "are". E.g. there are four turtles in my sewer. You would not say "there are too much shit on this webpage", because that shit is uncountable.

  • I'm pretty sure democracy will die way before comedy this time

  • I meant, might as well get weird with your fashion.

  • Same, what have you got to lose?

  • Many do. Mostly Catholics though, and those kids are a little intense. My wife was smoking in the bathroom and dating while I was painting minis

  • What could be more sublime than the freedom to unburden oneself of a deep inner truth? Fuck the police, death to the IDF, Luigi did nothing wrong, and please rate my drawing of Muhammad: {ಠ,_」ಠ}

  • No but hi (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

  • I missed out on the joke, but at least you've reminded me I need to get a copy of Futurama.

  • My high school look was so extra that if you lived in Seattle 25 years ago just talking about my hair and jacket could dox me.

  • Here's one for ya: Hermes killed Thoth and got the knowledge of alchemy from him, resulting in the syncretic creation of Hermes Trismegistus and the hermetic tradition. Then later we killed Hermes and got the scientific method.

  • Nuggz

    Jump
  • He's a good humour man

  • Still manageable tbh

  • Exactly, the problem isn't I'm being naughty or whatever, it's just that my focus can be quite irregular so I'm always either taking a mild breather (and feeling irrationally guilty about it) or hyperfocused on my work and going at 2-3x normal speed, so there's really never a great time to surprise me.

My current setup is positioned sideways to the door and a window, because otherwise I'd have the same issue. Like so:

  • My home office was like that for a year, hated it. Now I've got it just how I want it, giant desk facing a door which stands atop a staircase. I can sense any approach from anywhere in the house. Only way to improve from here would be if I had Saruman's digs.

I really don't like being sneaked up on.

  • Twice.

Twice I have had to deal with open office layouts where my-

Still angry about this, gimme a sec.

My desk was facing THE WALL.
