  • Not sure why Trump or Ohio should have any say whatsoever in what to name a mountain in Alaska.

  • I'm a US citizen, and I don't see it as socialist.

  • Don't know if you're kidding or not, but Denmark is not a socialist country. It's a capitalist country, except one that actually works.

  • Probably just the usual provocations and deranged negotiation tactics, but, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: The US President-elect is a freakin' moron. Not that we didn't already know that, but America walked right into this lunacy with eyes wide open, fully aware. We deserve everything that's coming.

  • Abolish capital punishment!

  • Absolutely. It's just infuriating that there are so many great, efficient, and equitable healthcare systems out there in other countries, but the United States refuses to look at any of it because that's "socialism" or "communism" or whatever propaganda label the politicians want to put on it. Meanwhile, the people suffer, go bankrupt because they got sick or even die when they didn't go get treatment because they were afraid of the bill. Crazy.

  • Abolish capital punishment!

  • It just looks like he didn't get what he wanted. This is what he does. He's doing it the same way you buy a house. You offer something low and hope the seller will meet you in the middle. And they did.

I don't get why people haven't learned this about Trump yet. He got exactly what he wanted and he doesn't care about sounding crazy. Unfortunately, he got a win. Again.

  • Dems seem to have fallen completely off the face of the Earth since the election. Looks like it will take a while to get over this. They better do it fast, though.

  • The problem with a winner-take-all system like the Electoral College is that if you do not vote for the Democratic Party, you're just underpinning the Republican Party. The unfortunate truth is that every progressive who sat out the November election for various reasons helped put Trump back in the WH. The Electoral College has to go for a third party to be viable.

  • Also, older people were more prone to dying from Covid. That left a lot of room for conspiracy theories regarding what actually killed them. Heard of lot of conservative family members say "oh, it was probably just a bad flu that killed them." And when the vaccines came out that quickly changed to "the vaccine killed them."

  • Quite the difference from how half the US population reacted to a Covid vaccine. The power of political propaganda and social media conspiracy theories.

  • What I mean by that is that if OPEC (or any of the other big producers) decided to cut all of their production for a long period of time (e.g. a year), it would completely destroy the world market and the other players would be able to do nothing about it. It would simply take so much supply away that prices would go crazy.

  • Maybe not the same influence they once had, but every one of those producers can destroy the market on their own if they wanted to. That said, oil will overall be far less important over the coming decades as transportation and manufacturing move away from fossil fuels. Europe is very far along the way on that already.

  • True. And there's only so much the US can do. At the end of the day, OPEC can just raise or lower production to destroy any US policy.

  • Unless Republicans choose to abolish the filibuster, they can't do it. Takes 60 votes in the Senate.

  • Won't this just get the orange to push even more for drilling and further harm the environment and climate?

  • We need a single-payer, universal healthcare system like they have in every other developed country. It's the only way to control cost and make sure that everyone is covered.

  • Unfortunately, nothing will ever happen. Especially since Republicans have no interest in universal healthcare and hold every position of power now. It's all about money.
