  • Portable Ac units with exhaust ducts out of the cave or whatever special storage space in the meantime would go a long way here.

Long enough that temporary might turn permanent.

  • When you fall asleep waiting for the target of your perfect ambush

  • Iirc, some adaptations name him Adam, for the line “I ought to be thy Adam.”

  • So, I went to a movie in theaters for the first time in ages…. Apparently there’s a coyote vs acme cartoon/live action cross over that looked pretty good. Anyhow, carry on. (Meep meep,)

  • It has no doors, and that brown thing is just a painting of a door in an otherwise solid wall. The windows, too.

  • Unless you’re Musk’s kid.

Then your name also includes numbers. Because your dad is such a shitheel he used a random password generator.

  • Blazin Bev?

Was trying to figure who would be the funnier doctor- Blazin Bev or Voyager’s Doctor…

  • Even when I was an ardent Christian, I despised mega churches.

My grandma lived a few country blocks from James River Assembly; and since we were AoG, she’d insist on us going there rather than her usual church when we visited.

I loved her tiny Presbyterian church and listening to her play the organ for the relatively small choir. I also loved the potlucks, and my grandpa gossiping with the old folks about what everyone was doing with their grandkids.

But James River? Hell hole. There was no connection. No real meaning. They’d get up and do old-but-still-called-contemporary songs with a full rock band (but not rock music because rock and roll is the devil), the place was full of suits and conspicuous displays of wealth and false displays of piety.

  • Orwell could be savage.

  • “I quite enjoyed it.”don’t tell him.”

  • That’s definitely part of it.

In Star Trek, though, it became a form of lazy writing.

I think the only time I didn’t hate it so much was in the whale movie and then the DS9 episode with the bell riots.

But for everyone of those, there’s the arc or movie or episode that’s like “yeah we went back in time and fixed it and… uh…. What was I talking about? Hello nice alien, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

  • Dinosaurs never really went away. (Birds are dinosaurs, after all.)

  • Don't you know in the future, everyone is American? C'mon.

i'm with Umthatguy, though. Phlox is my favorite.

    "

    <creepy smile>

    OPTIMISM, Captain!"

I thoroughly enjoy sublte critques of humanity through the lense of "aliens trying to figure us out". Like the bab5 scene where Londo sings the Hokey Pokey and gets irate because it's a totally mid-tier song that 'everybody" knows.

  • It's funny.

If I were to give sci-fi writers or anyone in that creative space some advice, it'd be this: Don't fuck with time. Just stay away. There's very few shows/books/whatever that can pull it off without "going back and fixing it" becoming like literally every episode. or like Voyager's Year of Hell arc, where that entire arc literally does not matter to the overall story, it didn't really develop the characters, and everything at the start of it was reset.

Quantum Leap and Dr. Who are the only two examples I can think of where it works.

  • No it wouldn't.

Again. Please try and understand what I'm saying.

The differences in other branding are sufficient that no one looking at the webpages or whatever they clicked on would be confused. There's not a likely chance that someone is going to confuse Demon Hunter the Metal Band with KPop Demon Hunter the Anime. And even if they did click the wrong link there's no real harm. All it really means is that whoever took the wrong link hop needs to work on their google-foo.

I mean. really. look at the difference in branding:

    Vs:

The concept of "Demon Hunter" as a thing is something that's common enough that it's going to bump into other brands. It's not like they went after the 2005 movie "Demon Hunter"

and while things may have fallen through the cracks, but when you apply for a trademark the USPTO searches their database to verify that there's nothing already trademarked that you might be infringing on. given that netflix has a trademark, that search happened in some form and they decided it was acceptable.

  • First off there’s a reason I put it in quotes.

And second, that wasn’t what I was arguing. Nice straw man.

Third, you can’t trademark something after people who have similar names just because they have similar names.

Demon hunter is a metal band.

It’s very unlikely that they lost business because someone wandered into an anime called “Kpop Demon Hunter”… and even if they did, it wasn’t named to trade on the metal band’s name.

  • No. I didn’t because I have better things to do.

But no, they still haven’t shown trademark infringement. You’re really going to tell me that the metal band lost measurable business because some idiot on the internment couldn’t tell the difference between a kpop musical on Netflix and their metal band.

all because they were either to cheap to pay for SEO or so crappy that paying for SEO still doesn’t matter. (Bet: the settlement includes SEO.)

Sorry. No. That’s not trademark infringement. It’d be like McDonald’s Plumbing suing McDonald’s burgers.

Guess what- these things happen, and they’d have to show that that the decision was intentional and malicious, when the people making the decision probably didn’t even know the metal band existed. That’s not going to happen.

  • I’m not saying ST and Who are both about the same level of scifi hardness.

But, the way things work are both entirely different, and a cross over would smash them together.

    And then there’s the lore.

Were Time Lords one of the temporal factions? Does that make them the bad guys?
