I have one on my Lenovo IdeaPad I bought a few months ago and am running Mint on. I remapped it to bring up the menu almost immediately. No issues. It acts like a Super key. Maybe this is a model specific thing?
There was an attempt, way back when, to revoke the tax exempt status of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, CA because the priest there was openly critical of the Bush administration. The argument was that, by criticizing Bush he was endorsing a Democratic candidate and churches at the time were not allowed to endorse political candidates. Of course, Trump changed that (and, possibly, his only legal leg to stand on in regards to this threat). Unless there's an amendment that makes space for "not hurting Twumpy's widdle feewings" then, yeah, I don't think there's much he can do to pick on particular denominations, etc. But with Trump, nothing is assured.
EDIT: I see on the original post that Trump's statement that he removed the clause forbidding churches from endorsing candidates is actually false. Welp.
As we predicted! I'm a priest in the Episcopal Church and at our recent clergy conference we were made aware of a letter being issued by a large number of our bishops, to be published in one of the big papers, denouncing ICE (it was distributed to us this past Saturday, but I have no idea if it's shown up in one of the papers or not). We discussed the possibility of Trump getting mad and revoking our tax exempt status because of it. Dude is quite predictable lol.
I always love the assumption that the money taxed on churches will go and do the work that churches would do and not build bombs. My parishioners are already taxed to help kill people, I really don't need their faithful contributions to be taxed again so that the US can kill more people. Maybe fix the way taxes are spent and I'll support taxing my church. But for now, I really don't want to see the money people give out of their sense of faithfulness to be used to pay for an extra bullet that's going to kill someone standing in ICE's way.
My congregation is pretty small. I know the assumption is huge megachurches and all that (and yeah, maybe those folks should be taxed because they use the religious exemptions as a loophole for some really unsavory stuff). But the 40-ish people that give what they do do so to help in what little ways they can.
I've long wanted to see Star Trek branch out into different TV genres (and am glad to see them, more or less, doing so these days). But I would LOVE a House-like medical show involving Starfleet Medical, or a police procedural involving like Starfleet Intelligence. That way you can still get ethical dilemmas and alien-of-the-week stories, but approach them from a different perspective.
Thank you! I switched to Linux last year after a few years of flirting with the idea. My main work computer is a 2011 iMac and I got really tired of not being able to run some things and the whole planned obsolescence aspect despite the hardware being perfectly serviceable. So, I went and, I kid you not, borrowed Linux For Dummies from the local library. Prior to this I had no idea what a shell was or even a “distro”. And, honestly, the For Dummies book over complicated Linux a bit. It front-loaded everything and made it way more intimidating than it needed to be (and I’ve been using computers since DOS days and built a PC back in 2000). Which I feel like a lot of Linux guys do as well.
Realized that Linux was lots of things and felt a pull toward Ubuntu, I installed it on the iMac and was instantly in love. After a few months, though, Canonical started pulling some nonsense and making changes to my system with updates like they were Apple. So I hopped over to Mint as I kept reading about how great it was and how “it just works” (a sentiment that brought me to Apple back in 2005). Now I stick Mint on everything. I kind of want to distro hop for the fun of it, but I’ve tested a few on distrosea and haven’t really found anything that draws me away from Mint. Yeah, I’m a bit of a normie. But normies deserve better OSes too!
The cast. That’s what I love about the show. The writing can be uneven and often downright contradictory (they ignore the whole “we have limited photon torpedoes” thing from the pilot pretty much immediately and have fun counting the number of shuttle craft they wind up destroying over the course of the series). But the cast is great, especially after a season or so when everyone has figured out their characters a bit.
I legit had to look up whether or not it was the same actor. This is one of those things that, in the pre-internet days, you could say and people would just have to believe you. Like that legend that Marilyn Manson was Paul from The Wonder Years.
I’m an Episcopal priest. At a parish I served in some years back, we had a custom of giving kids animals from the nativity scene to carry in procession and place around the manger at the Christmas Eve service. I would be at the end of the procession to place the Christ child in the manger and then cense the scene before saying the opening prayers. I do so and happen to catch something out of the ordinary: a tiny rubber dinosaur has somehow made it into Bethlehem. So I start the service by noting this and the church has a good chuckle.
No one ever fessed to putting in there, but it became a fixture in the parish’s nativity scene from then on (with kids occasionally clamoring to be the one to carry the dinosaur in the procession).
So, the term “Antichrist” is kind of complicated. It only appears in the letters of Saint John (never showing up in Revelation, despite popular belief), where it tends to refer to a spiritual power that is “anti” Christ. But prophecy people over the centuries have turned this spiritual power into a certain figure they call The Antichrist. The imagery of this figure makes use of the “Beast” in Revelation 13 (specifically the Beast from the Sea). Which is all to say that “the Antichrist” and “the Beast” are, in a sense, the same figure. Curiously, and more to your question, Revelation 13 also refers to another Beast (from the earth) making an image of The Beast from the Sea that can speak and convince people that the image is alive. And this image forces people to take on the “Mark of the Beast” in order to participate in the economy. So, AI Trump?
