ACAB, Anti-War, and I hate Democrats, Republicans, and billionaires. (Yes, even your favorite billionaire: the pop star, the philanthropost, the legendary athlete, or the soft-spoken investment guru who cosplays as middle class.) With each passing day I get a little closer to hating everyone.

  • I am so glad I never got into Ring. or Alexa, or voice assistants, but I have a roomba so I'm well aware that there's a minor surveillance appliance in my home too. I regularly go into my privacy settings and wipe my data on Roomba because of it, but unless you're putting your phone in a faraday cage/bag or storing it securely when you're not using it, you're being tracked too.

  • What's wild to me is that I'm not on corporate social media, and the outrage has absolutely exploded on Mastodon and Lemmy. I wonder how bad it has gotten on the corporate media sites, because there's no way the algorithm hasn't noticed it.

    It reminds me of when OnlyFans (stupidly) told us all they weren't going to allow porn anymore, as if that wasn't the core of their business.

  • I've given up on the super-corporate side of the Internet.

    99% of my Internet use is Mastodon and Lemmy, both of which don't really represent "the Internet". I sail the high seas occasionally to help meet my other needs.

    Yes, multiplayer gaming is toxic as hell. If I'm doing that, I have chat turned off, but mostly I've managed to finagle the Internet into my own personal, cozy little Hobbiton derivative, so it doesn't feel quite so toxic to me as it might to the population at large.

    But it's not limited to ICE and it's something that's been going on for generations. Hell, a quick online search will give you stories of cops planting evidence, or tossing flashbangs at babies, or even dropping explosives on citizens from helicopters.

    It's why cities with competent leaders are trying to keep cops local.
