I like city building games and puzzles. I like other things as well, but that's not important right now.

  • Oh are Janitors expected to have first aid training or is it just something they said to help boost their resumé?

Also, sorry for your loss, it sounds traumatic & Art Teachers are usually great people.

  • How to find niche topics?

As far as I can tell you onky find discord servers from the links on other social media, e.g someone's youtube channel, a subreddit, a twitter page. Or you can be DMed it or a game can set up its own discord.

I would search for the niche topic on reddit and then look for associated discord servers there.

Can all of our Discord contacts see all the Communities we joined?

No but someone you friend request can see the ones you share with them

Or do they just see us, and none of our interests & conversations that don’t involve them?

They see you, if they click on your name they see:

    • what games you recently played (u can turn this off)
    • or music you played (if enabled)
    • servers you're BOTH in
    • notes thst they added to you, e.g to remind themselves how they met you or who you are, or what games they can play with you.
  • I'm in mixed mind about them because you're right, they're too destructive, but for the time being their existence has prevented conflicts from breaking out, and since wars are typically only waged with the promise of financing it afterwards via looting or expansion, nobody is really willing to render land unusable in the process of conquering it.

  • Dating via apps is bullshit, yes, because its people flinging themselves at a each other randomly like angry birds and hoping for a good outcome. Dating strangers in the traditional senss seems okay... but you're right, meeting someone casually and then asking them out is the very best

  • It's not my favourite but it's dark so it really sticks in my mind:

  • I think it is, it hits all the tropes. 'He locked himself inside and gets food and water delivered to him' okay...

  • Get a nosebleed from all the dust

  • older movies often didn’t have much sound design, you heard what the people on set heard

I really enjoy how old movies have their actors speak with a "theatre voice," clearly annunciated, typically the same accent, loud for the people in the back.

  • I wish they were at least evenly spaced. Alpha should be 2013 to 2028 rather than ensing in the 'mid 2020s'. Everything with a 15 year gap should be wider in line with Baby Boomers and those before them, or the baby boomers should be split into two different generations.

Also if their oldest members are 13 yo, then its way too soon for me to pass judgement onto generation alpha. A teacher, parent or healthcare worker might have some insight though

  • That's so awesome. You're keeping a dying craft alive

  • Modern stuff seems to require subtitles on, older stuff doesn't. Weird that. Like they're getting worse at sound design

  • Im at home alot because i cant drive and the job market is overcrowded in my area, not like i could handle a job anyway

Do you live in suburbs, rurual or in an urban area?

One thing you could do is get a volunteer position, maybe just one or two shifts a week, and then use that to help pivot into a paid job.

  • Hard to say. I'd always pick WFH if the commute is otherwise long or unpleasant (might choose remote for half the week and in person for tne other half), but i do think being around other people working is best for my own productivity.

  • Honestly in my experience charming parents is easy lol, but i guess that means people had to strike more of a balance between being a "respectable young man" (to charm the parents) and "not a total dork" (to charm the lady in question) - The lack of this social balance is why society is collapsing !

  • Wow that's really weird because i thought ants were supposed to be everywhere - at least in summertime when you go outside. If they smell that bad then it must be unbearable just walking around places in the city.

  • She also thinks that staying at one employer for decades is the key to higher pay, better benefits, and promotions.

I have read terrifyingly depressing stories of people being underpaid - even for highly challenging work like civil engineering - when they do this. I mean it's more of an employer issue, but part of the benefit of 'job hopping' is that anp non-asshole boss will try and match your new offer in order to keep you.

  • Yep this is the big one. Fortunately my own parents aren't like this, but they're technically (only just) gen x - it's genuinely like there's a magical barrier where the arbitrary generational lines are drawn

  • I've never used one but they look and SOUND so fascinating

I also appreciate how people use them as musical instruments sometimes.
