I like city building games and puzzles. I like other things as well, but that's not important right now.

  • Those are cool pub names

  • Cool!

  • we have names like “The Little Waterway,” “The Bridge,” “The Small Pond,”

That's quite charming. I'm convinced that living in the Netherlands is like living in The Shire from Lord of the Rings

  • I didn't think about them being actual public houses until now. Strategy games have lead me astray - you always build a dedicated tavern building in those. I suppose now i understand the distinction between a tavern and a pub, at long last.

  • "Cheval blanc" or a horse by any other name (colour) is very fancy and would have me believe i wss at a restaurant instead

    Thank you for your examples!

  • What on earth is the use of a gay bar you will likely be stanbbed at?

  • I have a background in CS and AI (from the early 00’s, don’t be too impressed

I think it's more impressive from back then. Nowadays there are so many people doing AI studies that it seems like it's just the "generic and uninspired" degree choice, and since it's a new tech you can pick any little thing to hone in on for a dissertation. Maybe i'm wrong?

  • This is terrifying. I would have thought tech professionals would be the most resistant to AI. Job openings in tech are becoming scarce and people seem to have to take a pledge of allegisnce to LLMs to bpget a shoe in.

  • Did you notice the effects on yourself right away, or did it take years to even recognize the pattern?

Both. A lot of knowing something was really fucked up, eventuslly deciding it wasn't because i was conditioned to it, and then re-realising later down the line. That said i had more subtle and less severe forms of abuse than most people, and i wouldn't usually even speak about my childhood experiences as being 'abusive.' But i think any decent shrink would agree they were and be able to pick up in whst ways they were.

Does it ever fully go away, or does it just become something you manage better over time?

In some cases it will go right away when you manage to cut off your family for good. I guess i would advise that you see severing a connection with them as being spiritually akin to actually cutting that pain out of your life and your memory.

If you suffered something like sexual abuse then no, it'll be harder to forget about. For me though, one thing i was subject to was verbal abuse and conditioning and i am at least confident enough in my own intelligence to not actually take that verbal abuse to heart.

You know what though? Whenever it happens with someone else, like a friend a romantic partner or a complete stranger, it's all the more worse. Because of what i've already experienced. I got harassed and stalked in university and i couldn't stop saying to myself "i hope they fucking die" et cetera. I've not had that before, but as a teenager i did have sleepless nights because i was so angry at the bullying and manipulative people i was surrounded by in society.

I think we get stronger and weaker from day to day in so manyways we don't notice. Thinking about it now, i'm so past some of the symptoms of mental torment i used to have and i haven't thought about the triggers in months. Psychologists/psychiatrists say that actuslly thinking and feeling through your trauma is what heals you and allows you to move on so i guess that's it.

This is a very good rule

  • Yeah i've heard ab9utthat. Quite funny. I suppose there are some arguments to be made in favour of it

  • Awesome breakdown! You seem to know a lot about the topic so in your words, (or with a source of your choice) would you mind explaining how DID tends to manifest/how it could better be depicted in movies and television?

  • But god forbid if you do feel a need to do something more community based, maybe look on Reddit (i know, we alll hate reddit) for people in your local community who might have supportive workout groups. One thing you should know is that gyms are actually quite supportive environments - they need your money and they need nee customers in the community!

One near me actually has an outdoor bootcamp it does in the park's basketball court, and lots of guided exercises. Something like thst might be good? It's a smaller and more independent gym which considers itself a family run business.

    1. Get really into walking. No matter what sport you take up, or any at all, this will still be the most important element as it lets you "warm up" and keep your body in a 'ready to be active' state as well as passively burning energy.

So be exploring parks around you, maybe get into photography to help have a reason to take walks.

People can lose all the weight they need to just from walking. It is also considered by some people to be essential for recovering your body from pain after a day where you worked out.

    1. However, also get into calisthenics. This is solo exeercise designed to not need equioment or only lightweight equipment, therefore you can circumvent going to a gym for it. You'll want enough space at home or in a park to do it, and this is why many people do choose to do it at gyms anyway.
    2. Pickleball or table tennis might be good sports to get into if you don't like team sports.
    3. Swimming. I need to do more of that. It's acessible and "hidden away" from prying eyes.

Some useful channels: Yellow Guy Calisthenics. this guy's advice is valuable to me because it comes across as unconventional and says things i would not have thought of.

  • This is a notable fact! Again, inaccurate movies will push viewers into making bad choices.

One of my favourite games ever, The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, talks about this a lot. It's a choose-your-own-adventure and no matter what end goals you focus on you will have to make many choices that sacrifice your own character's happiness, or that of their family, in some way, just to make sure that you don't get a "bad ending" where your faction loses during the revolt at the end of the game.

I'm thinking about it a lot because it's sequel comes out soon.

Two TV shows which manage to accurately convey revolutionary failure are Andor and Deutschland 83

  • No that’s not how that shit works

    sh.itjust.works

  • Yeah

  • Yes and i think this would be a healthy thing to show.
