  • I lucked out on my feral cat (rest in peace, Midna). She was a kitten I found living in the apartment trash heap. Definitely not owned, as she was much MUCH too young to be an outside cat. I was outside sitting in the driveway humming "Scarborough Fair" and I heard the tiniest mewling as she ran up to me.

    All my other cats have been shelter cats. I had a foster kitten that was so sick I could not take my eye off him and he needed antibiotics for most of his kitten life, so I kept him. I'd perch him on my shoulder and do everything with him there. My dad took him in when I had to move and it was adorable seeing him fully grown and draped around his shoulders all day. When he got sick again, my step mom called me and gushed at how good he was about taking his medicine.

    But he was a hugger. A full on baby in full grown form and he would velcro to you if you picked him up and want you to hold him for HOURS. And it hurt sometimes. A cat claw in your nipple is not fun and he liked to give free piercings.

  • It really all boils down to "live how you want as long as you're not bothering others". If you believe heavily in it, then live by it, but stop slamming it into the heads of people who believe the opposite or just don't care.

    It's part of the reason why younger gens cringe at religion. "Do this or you will go to hell, but do it through us because you'll go to hell if you do it through another religion." It's enough to make anyone balk, and rightfully so. The ground is always shaky, it just doesn't feel as shaky if you shake with it.

    ...Now I want a shake.

  • I'm in the same spot, tbh. I want to do something, but I just can't figure out what yet. I'm not giving up though. We can definitely do this.

  • I partially agree. Intelligence tends to also go hand in hand with anxiety a lot of the time. A lot of true geniuses don't even know what social integration is. There are a lot of extremely intelligent people that shy from society as a whole.

    It might be just the groups I've been in, but I've seen a lot of escapism in the intelligent individuals I've met, and people are all too happy to just ignore their existence and flock to the few shining stars. I can't quite really put words to this, so I may not be really articulating what I mean properly. Sorry about that. I'm honestly just concerned for the good people that get squashed by society. That just don't fit in. Most of those individuals tend to be highly intelligent, however, ridiculing people who aren't as intelligent is the same deal.

    I guess I mean to say that my people are the hiding people. The people who have something to say or to contribute, but this fast paced world is just too much for them.

  • I believe that its pointless to argue this way or that about antinatalism, as we no longer have control of a population encroaching 8 billion. It just becomes a moot point to bash each other on over the internet (which can be said about a multitude of other subjects).

    I'm not going to have kids. That's just what I want. Going extreme on antinatalism or pronatalism is just circling back to telling other people what they should do with their bodies. Everything is just so extreme these days. Its do or die in the eyes of the public, no matter what you do, and its grating.

  • I believe that intelligence is stupidity in the opposite direction, but not in the way that most think.

    Edit: Let me clarify that anything in the extreme is fallacy. Intelligence becomes isolation, wisdom becomes condescension, stupidity becomes ignorance.

    Yet most seem to think excess amounts of wisdom and intelligence is tantamount to success and even being just a little bit stupid is something to ridicule. I will die on this hill.

  • I gotta find me one of those. Mine was a gift from my mother and I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth in this economy. It's a bit of a pain, but I'm good with my hands and even better with pulling apart tech. It's a pain, but not impossible to clean.

    Bonus is that you can buy third party roller replacements for a third of the price of the head unit. At least third party markets are still allowed for the time being.

  • I was just thinking about this the other day after removing the fifteenth torx screw from the bottom of my Shark vacuum's roller head. They hid screws under the pipe hatch and the two tiny friction mounted front wheels. Vacuums are triple the price and rollers are no longer removable from the outside.

    45 minutes to fix what is essentially a five minute problem. They'd rather you throw it away and buy the whole head unit from the site. They even have bars blocking you from cutting hair from the roller without opening it.

    Shit like this is why I still use an iPod 5th gen. No internet. No tracking apps. Just you and your hard copied music on a device that can be opened, repaired, and modded.

  • Mullvad, (the vpn, I have not tried the browser) uses a single account number as both name and password, no emails. It allows for multiple anonymous payment methods and it's open source.

    Sliiiiightly more trustworthy than Google imo.

  • Meant to reply earlier, sorry. I assume that it waits for several inputs to verify. I have completed some streets in my area and there's no changes as of yet. I think its more of a hobby thing. I like going around, getting out of the house and getting some fresh air while having a goal. Things like Pokemon Go just didn't do it for me. I can easily see my tiny town not having much in the way of public infrastructure data, tbh.

    I do understand where you're coming from. If its just not your cup of tea, it does seem silly.

  • If you want to go even further, you can grab StreetComplete and have fun wandering your neighborhood while contributing to OpenStreetMap by answering questions for things like business hours, road widths, road materials, etc. Unfortunately, it seems to be android only at the moment and I'm not sure if there's an iOS alternative.
