A secret chat is only for local privacy, meaning if someone got access to your device they can't find them, nor will you get notifications (in case your partner is watching your screen).
Back when we just had SMS and MMS, they had secret chats, too. They were blatantly marketed as tools to cheat on your partner. GO SMS was one of the first to use them. Its not so blatant anymore, but its still the primary use for "secret" chats.
I remember reading an article that someone figured out everyone's GO SMS images (even secret ones) were uploaded online without any security whatsoever. You could put in the url and some random numbers and get any pictures and voice clips ever sent. And they never fixed it even after it was leaked.
So yeah, not so secret. You want secure.
Edit:Context: Sorry, my ADHD gets the better of me. I mean that there's more likely than not a government backdoor. Other users are unlikely reading your messages, but your messages are more than likely being scanned. Just be careful if you use TG.
If you want something more like the fediverse itself, then Matrix. If you want something closer to Telegram out of the box without setup, then Signal or SimpleX.
I predicted this years and years ago when the internet was still young. I'm probably already well scanned and filed away like the rest of us, but as a rule of thumb I always come up with new usernames for everything just to be safe. I'm never the same on more than two platforms max. I've never connected my usernames to my identity, I've just always been paranoid about it since dial up was a thing.
Plus, I like the change. You get infinite new starts and it really gives you time to think and build on your first impressions. I highly recommend it. Not even my MMO accounts use the same character names from any other MMO. I have many abandoned emails, and never name them anything similar.
If you're going to be online, always keep moving. Keep changing, keep remaking yourself, and do it often. The same goes for avatars. Change them often and try not to use too many from actual hobbies you like. AI slop is out there, just generate something locally or pick something random that looks cool.
It's not impossible to still fingerprint someone like this, but that doesn't mean make it easy for big corp to file you away and monetize your existence.
Oh hell yeah. I'll take Solstice any day. What a legendary game. One of the best platform-puzzle titles for it's time. You just can't understand it until you play it.
I never had the manual, so it was confusing as hell for a while. Most stories for NES games came from the manual. NES manuals were half guides, half prologue novels.
This might be a weird, obscure game, I think, but I LOVE the Act 1 Part 1 song from Totally Rad and Act 1 Part 2 is my second favorite NES tune. The whole OST is just fire.

Damn, you beat me to it. Mushi Shi is an unfinished masterpiece and severely underrated. I had some I wanted to add to this list, but honestly some have blood and such which I don't know exactly what you'd want for an early teens daughter. I would have recommended Delicious in Dungeon, but there are some dismemberment scenes and it sort of downplays death, as you can and can't die in the dungeon. Lemme try to see what I can dig up from my history though.
Kimi ni Todoke - It is romance, but its so fluffy and goes lightly into what bullying can do to people as well as showing that people are not always who they seem on the outside. Touches on judging others, but remains extremely lighthearted.
Saiki K - One of the few anime that has made me legitimately laugh. It's nonsensical and good for most ages. I'm usually a romance buff, but this one drew me in when I curiously watched the first episode.
Spice and Wolf - I watched the original and started the remake. I think either should be fine. Great adventure story with a bit of romance.
Ballroom Youkoso - So this will fall a bit into the unhealthy relationships. I can't remember if there was any nudity, but it does stem from the viewpoint of a hormonal teenage boy. However, the art of the dancing is absolutely stunning. Just beware the necks. Iirc, there are crazy long necks in this one, lol.
Yuri on Ice - Similar to Ballroom Youkoso, but has a bit of an unhealthy relationship as a side story, iirc. I haven't seen it all, just a bit of it and can't remember much. I really enjoyed the skating scenes, which are very similar to the dancing scenes in Ballroom. It is a boys' love, but that's not the main point of the anime.
Spy x Family - Haven't seen it all, but what I have seen is great and seems good for younger generations.
Arakawa Under the Bridge - Okay, this may be a bit much at times, but damn if its not hilarious and mysterious. There is some non-showy nudity, I think, but its more like bathing and such, nothing extreme.
Dr. Stone - This should be all around a good pick for multiple ages. Apocalyptic scenario with reinventing the wheel as the theme.
Cells at Work! - Another one I've seen little of, but it was pretty good and teaches a fair bit about the internal human anatomy.
Silver Spoon - Anime based around farming. It's a happy little anime with a bit of serious undertones for the background of the characters. Made by the creator of Full Metal Alchemist. I would also recommend FMA, but there may be some parts of that anime that could be a bit scary for younger teens.
Komi Can't Communicate - Another good romance base. It starts around misunderstandings and the fear of speaking in public, but devolves later into just a regular slapstick romcom. However, that's mostly in the manga where it goes far beyond the anime.
My Hero Academia - I did get into this for a bit, but it sorta fell off my radar for no particular reason.
Frieren: Journey's End - Have not watched all of this, but the first 3 episodes were amazing and the story is endearing as well as very emotional. A great adventure with a touch of tragedy, but it seems well recommended for all ages.
I have many more, but I have watched a disgusting amount of anime and can't remember everything. I've been watching anime and reading manga since 2006, lol. Please, anyone correct me on any of these. My memory is hazy, especially when it comes to older anime I watched a long time ago.
Just thinking of commands I need to learn, and I think chroot is up there. Iirc, you can recover from some extremely bad system states with an ISO and chroot.

Out of them all, Rofi is the most complex, but the most rewarding. I have a Rofi script launcher that I found and edited from github here.
So far I've managed to edit the lock and logout script to work on Wayland KDE and then downloaded rofi-games to slot it into where the window switcher should be (its great, has all my Steam titles, Lutris titles, and even my Prism Launcher modded Minecraft instances).
Meta-Space will bring up my power menu to shutdown, logout, etc. Alt-Space will bring up the app launcher, but I can shift-arrow to filesystem to browse for documents or folders to open, commands to run simple terminal commands, or rofi-games to launch any game.
I'm short a window switcher, but it doesn't seem to work on Wayland afaik. I'm more used to alt-tabbing anyway.

I used just plain command prompt for a long time when I was on Windows, but I did find a nice one called Tabby. The only problem is getting it to run as your default terminal.
Yeah, I'll pass. If I want a GameOS I'll just go SteamOS, Arch, or Nobara. I donate to things I like and leave if they start grabbing at my wallet. I know donations are slim in most projects and its a major problem, but cryptocurrency is not the answer.

Wow, nothing is sacred anymore. Luckily the only people I ever play with these days are my nephew, his girlfriend and my girlfriend.
We're all local so we just play modded java on LAN and I host the server straight from PC. His girlfriend's family lives downstairs from us so they can jump on even if we're not home.
I do have a friend a couple hundred miles away who wants to play, so I might have to look into just getting a secured Bisect server running instead of hosting.
Yup. It was THE app to use way back in the day. Before that was Ventrilo, but setting up a Vent server was a pain in the ass. I got it working once, but it was a lot of port tinkering and giving out my IP to trusted friends.
Skype made it so easy to just click and call or else make rooms for your guild in whatever game you played at the time (my poison of choice was Ragnarok Online).
Then Skype changed hands, started monetizing, pushing Windows pre-installs, and would even watch conversations to make sure no one was using the app for sexual purposes.
