Honestly I'm thinking it's because it's cheaper to have programmers doing simple FW programming for things than it is to have engineers design the required circuits. There are so many things with microprocessors in today that just does not actually need it but it was the lazy option. It opens stupid avoidable avenues of vulnerabilities.
Why the hell make it with a microprocessor when something simple like brightness levels and simple blinking patterns can be made with much simpler digital electronics without the need for any programming whatsoever leaving the whole hacking-issue out of the equation.
No, I believe you hold Prusa to a higher standard than they actually deliver. It's true their roots are in open source, but these days they are only partially open source and their control board is not open source at all.
Isn't their entire FW closed and using proprietary boards? AFAIK replacement parts are also only available as STLs? That's somewhat halfhearted open source IMO.
Haha yeah I mistyped the years, it was supposed to be +10 and not +20...nevertheless these cards have been pulling at least 3-400W for the past 15 years.
My +10 year old GTX780 would pull 300W at full tilt, and it has only a ridiculous fraction of the compute power. The radeon 6990 would pull +400W... high end GPUs have been fairly power hungry for literally more than a decade.
No, tesla never had lidar in any of their cars, they had the same regular radar all other cars use, but yes it has since been disabled (or not installed on newer models) in favour of a camera-only solution.
Sure it's similar size and kinematics, but if they're expecting similar UX and speed as the BL A1 from the Prusa mini they're in for a nasty disappointment.
IMO there are currently not really any direct replacement to BL printers, you'll have to sacrifice on speed, UX or both no matter which printer you get. I hope someone will pick up with the gap in the market since BL did their switcheroo.
Edit: maybe Qidi is pretty close to a direct replacement, but I haven't used those.
Yeah, I tend to believe it would be better to stop the entity that has currently done the most harm, with no intent to stop, first...I'm weird like that.
Elon is a twat and a menace for sure, but Nestlé have employed business strategies that literally killed infants and caused malnourishment...they are a completely different league of evil, far far worse than what Elon has done so far.
