  • You have 3 arrows of time: one points from the smaller universe to bigger universe, second points from universe with lower entropy to higher entropy and third points from what we perceive as past and remember to the future that we don't remember. Right now those 3 arrows of time are aligned and points in the same direction. It's possible that first arrow will change direction at some point, second will not and we don't know about the third. So on universe's level it's complicated. On human level we simply remember events "behind on" on the timeline and don't remember the ones "in front of us". It's not clear why or if this can change. Maybe it's different for other organisms.

  • Interesting. Everyone expected him to retire to secure the seat for another fascist for couple more decades. Especially with the midterms looking really bad for Republicans he should step down so they can appoint someone quickly. I see two options here:

    1. Just like most of those fuckers he just can't let go of power. He thinks no one will be able to replace him and he will hold on to the seat until he dies.
    2. He thinks the midterms are in the bag or he thinks he will be able to secure them for Trump. Basically he thinks there's no need to retire just now because they will still be able to appoint Republican judge in a year or two.

  • AI is basically evil people raising prices of electricity, consumer electronics, emitting tons of pollution and making everyone dumber but don't worry because if they succeed... everyone will get fired. Everyone knows it's bad but as a society we can't do anything about it because the system was designed to empower sociopaths and make everyone else powerless to stop them.

  • The headline is wrong. They don't claim Gemini was trained on docs.

    If it was written only the day before there's no way the model was trained on that data. The claim is Gemini accessed his docs while generating the answer. We know Gemini can access public docs so I think the question here is if it accesses private docs in a breach of security, the doc had wrong permissions or it was all just a coincidence.

  • I mean... it's entertainment. It's not like they are offering some basic utilities. Buy it if you think it's worth it, don't buy it if you don't. Plenty of cheap alternatives on TV or in a library. I really don't remember Netflix of Apple promising to entertain everyone as cheaply as possible. They were always there to make money.
