  • Your comment seems very dismissive in the way you phrase this as intended behaviour. A security flaw like this can impossibly be intended behaviour.

In my previous comment i also say thats calling it malware is a bit far-fetched but the security issues are absolutely there and should not be dismissed as "intended behaviour". Especially not by a company like Anthropic.

I am not well versed in extension development but is there anything stopping me from making an open source extension and just defining the ID as one of the three in the article? It most likely couldnt be released via the chrome addon store but if it is installed outside of thar? And how are these IDs read after install, could it potentially be altered by something from the outside?

I immediately see so many flaws with this implementation it is worrying that a company the size of Anthropic does this.

  • Excuse me if im misunderstanding something but what exactly am i making up?

  • Even if this was an opt-in feature the implementation is still terrible and a massive security hole. If id wanted the desktop app entirely and solely for this purpose i still would not expect my browser extension to have full access to my computer. I understand the app does, not the browser extension.

No matter how you twist and turn this situation Anthtopic has still introduced a major security issue in their application. It might be a bit far to call it malware immediately but it sure does open up a massive attack vector to take advantage of.

The fact that the end user is not even informed or have a choice about this makes it all the more problematic and Anthropic not commenting on it makes me think its either intentional or at the very least already known.

  • I think alot of users also moved to dbzer0 due to a certain Adobe software community moving there from reddit so I would assume its either a loud minority or the instance was already a dumpsterfire before it grew.

Nonetheless, if its not properly moderated or if the entire purpose and ruling of it creates the issues then it should just be defederated IMO.

  • Bleep is a person who has changed my life, Ive never seen someone be so misinformed and at the same time so far up their own ass they pop out of their mouth. It is genuinely impressive.

I see alot of my teenage self here; doubling down on opinions of subjects i was way too uninformed about to actually have valid opinions on. I did manage to get better though, but that was because i listened to the people who disagreed with me. Especially when proven with the straight up facts that told me i was wrong. Not doing that is in my eyes intentionally malicious or what people refer to as trolling.

But I really am happy to have witnessed Bleep, even if i havent interacted with them very much. It has been a great exercise to know what content to ignore and report that otherwise looks "fine" on a surface level. So in that regard I thank Bleep.

On any other level, idk how they came to the conclusion/opinions they did, but i am more than curious to read a study on it!

  • Im curious why you hate watermarks so much? Gaining recognition as an artist by stamping a work as your own is very different than gazillion $ company paying to interrupt your content stream with brainwashing propaganda.

Either this is a very not-thought through opinion or it is a just another attempt to provide more content with attributions removed to train GenAI LLMs.

  • Was at my first concert this weekend, never seen one of these before and thought it was funny

  • Doesnt really matter IMO. If you have known bugs and flaws you dont showcase those, or if they are present in the showcase you atleast adress them and show what is to be expected upon release. NVIDIA just flat out didnt care. As soon as motion increases the artefacting is crazy. How do you even decide that this is remotely good enough for a demo?

  • 6€ a month for a VPS with self-hosted VPN :) I run all my self-hosted applications on my laptop but run it all through my VPS

  • I feel like usage of slurs are 99% unnecessary. I stopped using slurs in my own jokes when i realized it only normalizes the usage of that slur.

Even if you dont mean anything harmful or "its just a joke" that still normalizes its usage as a degrading term. I mean the sole intention of using that word is because it is degrading/harmful, why else would it be dark humor?

I also just find humor and jokes to be way more creative and funny when you dont use slurs.

I have no problem with the victims of a certain slur using said word since you cant really discriminate yourself the same way others can, hence why using it upon yourself and/or your own group/culture is also common.

For anyone interested theres alot of philosophy and human rights concepts behind this. My partner is currently studying human rights which is where some of these concepts were brought up in way more detail.

  • Maybe I can repurpose my 20TB drive to but an apartment, that would be an ok investment I think

  • Holy shit, dystopia is real

  • Yup, saw some stats from screenshots on there, their mail service had a cap of 300 mails monthly and it blew up to over 50 000. Verification/mail servers went up again yesterday at 4am CET but still seems like the authentication servers are pretty overrun.

  • Yeah, I lade my acc a year ago and iirc they didnt have voice chat then. Now they seem to have better permissions for channels, vc and video/screen sharing around the corner. Only thing Im lacking is fediverse type of instances so we can only pray that will be developed one day. As of now idk what the status on self-hosting is but ive seen the devs link alot about it in their official server

  • Stoat.chat, anyone?

  • Atleast point the gun in the right direction, please. I've used Discord since it's release, when I moved over from Skype. I've seen the enshittification all the way through and can safely say, as with every other SaaS software, if its run by a corporation it will eventually pile into a bag of shit. Thats not the users fault. Ive been looking for a promising alternative for a long time but there just isnt a good alternative. When it comes to features used by Discords users and communities most alternatives are lacking some key component that makes a switch hard. I just hope this speeds up the development of these features on alternative platforms.

  • Jesus i worked at exactly this kind of project once. The only other dev was also very hostile and protective of this position. He did not want me there in the slightest. Took about 6 months before we cancelled the contract since this dude was just actively harrassing me in Teams DMs on the daily and he just ignored all my concerns regarding maintainability since "he could understand the code" and i was probably just "not experienced enough".

Don't downplay what this does to your mental health. 5 years of workplaces like this and I'm now starting to see a therapist due to exhaustion disorder symptoms in my goddamn 20s. Take care our there!

  • Im so curious about the new VR tech, isn't this what the VR nerds have been talking about, like, forever? I guess we'll just have to see how well implemented it is.

But goddamn, what an absolute bombshell to drop 3 pieces of hardware at once. Lets hope they can deliver.

  • Damn, people really do remember you, huh. Feels crazy since i wouldn't expect someone to recognize or remember me IRL

  • I dont post a while lot so very curious if anyone recognizes me lol
