I have no sympathy for GAFAM, but Mozilla sucks even more and you can't convince me otherwise.

  • Too bad :-(

  • Jeez, guys... You're a paleontologist or what? That happened centuries ago.

  • "I really struggle trying to understand the addiction", was my original statement. The two last words are important.

  • I'm specifically talking about the video as a medium to share information, and youtube is the worst, as it's 99% filled with crappy influencer stuff whose only aim is to monetize people's time.

  • Well, maybe they'll get rid of the cookies banners /s.

  • To each their own, I guess. I prefer written stuff.

  • TBF, just leaving YouTube would be better. There's plenty of information out there which don't need some glorified video hosting platform (books, blogs, wikis and so oh). I really struggle trying to understand people's addiction to YT...

  • What about open sourcing stuff, instead of making it just "unsupported"?

  • One data point isn't statistically significant.

  • And they are systematically downvoted to hell.

  • People here loves to downvote for every little shit they disagree with... And they say Reddit is toxic... Anyway, I don't care. I just disable "show score" in settings and let the kids play.

Back to the topic, I don't use youtube at all, I don't like watching videos. I think Kagi is a great idea, but honestly 10 €/month is a lot of money for me at the moment, so I'm just self-hosting SearXNG and call it a day.

  • Because according to their perception "search" has less value than "watch", which may make sense if one seldom really uses a search engine (i.e., they just use the same 3-4 websites).

  • Sam . Mine is hosted on my RPi. Not ideal, I know, but at least it strips out tracking bits from the upstream engines.

  • Not many people want to (or can) shell out 10 $/month for a search engine. I'm not saying it's pointless, I'm simply saying that few people would do it.

  • Indeed. But it seems one isn't allowed to criticize Mozilla here, so wait for downvotes or enraged replies.

  • I guess so, but recent news aren't exactly inspiring. I'm really sorry for you (and I say that from an EU country with shitty politicians as well).

  • I'll actively try to avoid that. There's been a time in which I thought it could have been interesting to visit that country, but the time has passed.

  • I would, but unfortunately I don't use Gmail

  • I'm just tired of these shitty posts about... A perfectly fine browser! But no problem, I'll just keep blocking idiots who endlessly parrot bullshit while pretending that the fediverse is a paradise.
