  • It’s good for the same things machine learning has always been good for. Language synthesis and analysis. Selfhosting something like Paperless for document management. It actually has a very rudimentary learning engine for document classification for a long time but feeding document content to a local AI model for organization tagging is very useful.

  • They’re not shows I like they’re just widely considered some of the best TV shows ever made. Including The Wire which very famously takes a few episodes to get going. You also mentioned you like Archer which as we all know fell apart in later seasons so clearly you aren’t that concerned about consistent quality.

    It sounds like you just aren’t a fan of good TV and have very niche tastes which is OK too.

  • On the contrary, they’re considered the best of what TV has to offer. Breaking Bad, Star Trek TNG, DS9, The Office, Parks & Rec, The Expanse, The Wire, All have rough or slow starts that famously take at least several episodes to get going lol.

  • That’s an absolutely crazy viewpoint to have lol.

    It’s also uniquely positioned to set you up for mostly bad television, because many shows widely considered some of the best television ever made take a few episodes or even a full season before they really take off, but most shows I’ve seen that really nail episode one are more often than not downhill affairs that came about during the rise of streaming where they put all the effort into the beginning of the show to hook you and get you to binge it and then they don’t bother to put any effort into the back end.

  • Assuming you go to the doctor and find out you do have tinnitus and it’s permanent, I can totally understand the panic you’re feeling right now. It’s a very existential, pit of your stomach sense of dread you’re feeling right now.

    As somebody with tinnitus that is likely more severe than yours is right now, and have had it as young as you if not younger, you will get used to it with time, to the point that 90% of the time, you won’t hear it at all. Right now it’s going to seem far worse and suffocating because more than anything the tinnitus is triggered by remembering that you have it. Since it’s going to be stuck on your mind for awhile it might feel like you’re suffocating under it but as bad as I have it, it really is only an occasional annoyance.

    The important thing is to start protecting your hearing today. Ear plugs at concerts, plug your ears when the ambulance drives by, don’t blast the music in your car so loud.

    Don’t despair, when it’s really bad there are things that help like white noise, which can be generated on your phone or you can set up a fan at night. iPhones have a feature now that can add subtle nature sounds or white noise behind whatever else you’re listening to including music, if you find that’s something that helps you.

  • Quick connect is not SSO. Because the topic is about non-technical end user friendly solutions, this isn’t a great one because this requires your user to login using a web browser on a different device and then use that for the quick connect and it’s just more clunky than it should really be.

    It’s honestly easier in this situation to just configure your end users device with a mesh VPN like Tailscale or Netbird and then all they ever have to do is login with whatever password you gave them.

    Seems like every new open source selfhosted app implements OIDC compatibility, but for some reason, I can only assume is technical debt, Jellyfin hasn’t.

If you’re not going to post them, then all that’s been proven is that you’re a misinformation bot who can’t back up his accusations. If you manage to post something, we can scrutinize it and I can explain to you why it’s misinformation. But you’d have to post them.

    It’s not my job to find the nonexistent articles you’re talking about for you. The burden of proof is entirely on you here.
