Yes. The presiding officer can choose to ignore the advice of the parliamentarian on any matter they choose, which has happened several times before.
The parliamentarian exists to advise the chamber on existing procedures, but it is the presiding officer’s duty to make rulings. However, any senator may raise a point of order challenging the ruling of the presiding officer for not following the correct procedure. The dispute would then be put to a vote of the chamber. Ultimately, senators themselves are responsible for deciding the outcome of all parliamentary questions, even if they go against standing rules and precedent.
It's nothing but more performative politics and as we get closer to midterms, this performance will ramp up even further. They're not going to impeach or remove Noem from office because they condone her actions, I doubt there's going to be a single thing that Democrats are going to roll back once they get back into power. Their ratchet effect will lock it all into place and the entire country will shift further to the right, they've been doing this for decades
The most important step is beating fascism, which includes Democrats and Republicans. Our current conditions did not rise in a vacuum, fascism cannot become a dominant force without the complicity of a weak liberal party. Only focusing on Trump, who is a single cog in the machine, will result in nothing changing. Liberals are focused on the emperor when they should be focusing on the Empire.
The current US primary system is the furthest from actual democracy and fair votes that you can get. There's no reason why all primaries couldn't all happen on one day like the general election. They stagger primaries so they can manufacture your consent for the candidate that they want in office
Democrats as a party have never shifted things to the left, they talk one thing while tossing us stale table scraps then vote like Republicans. That's how they've gone from people like Jimmy Carter to denying a genocide, that they are paying for, is occuring. If we overlaid today's political scale with the political scale from 1980, Democrats would be to the far right of Ronald Reagan. 40 years of liberal "lesser evil" has actually been incremental fascism
Meaningless gestures, they'll head to the voting booths and elect politicians that have no interest in eliminating ICE. In case you don't remember, there were also calls to defund police and defund ice in 2020 and the Democrat response was to increase ice and police funding to the highest levels they have ever received while greatly expanding detention centers across the country.
In typical fashion of people that do not know how to protest, they protest individual cogs in the machine and not the machine itself
You don't understand what violence is, isn't not just destruction of property, there is economic violence, which is what led to the civil rights bills, there is psychological violence which led to the end of the draft. There is neglect which would deny access to food and shelter. And of course collective violence.
