A little of many, and a lot of a few.Probably pretty similar to you.

  • Consumerist mind set. Bikes don’t tend to break all at once and you can ride a beater right across the country with a hundred bucks of spare parts. A lot of shit you just don’t need and a proper bike is the epitome of that. Also cars require maintenance too, and a hell of a lot more of it and it’s a lot more difficult and expensive. There is probably a whole order of magnitude number of things that could go wrong with a car at any moment.

  • No, the grid goes down and nobody gets service. The laws of economics do not supersede the laws of physics.

  • Any of the stunts Buster Keaton pulled.

  • Well, at any given moment production and demand must be equal on the energy grid, so maybe this wasn't the most ideal example.

  • Wouldn’t bear repeating if so many people didn’t think it has calculator functionality. Maybe if the people who designed them were honest about what they have made rather than trying to sell it to investors as AGI.

  • Met a couple in their 60's backpacking the AT. They absolutely cooked the rest of us. It was inspiring. If you use it, you keep it.

  • They literally can't do pure math. Like everyone knows how bad they are at even simple math. We have had tools that do pure math for thousands of years, and we call them calculators. A hotbox for an imaginative mathematician? Sure, but any conclusions drawn get drawn elsewhere with more traditional tools.

  • Telescopes and geology have always been the cool part of space, not that humans are in it.

  • I like the local one and I like using my radio. Its like 1 minute of ad over the course of a day.

  • Local classical station only runs the ads stuck to the NPR news segments. If you run a good station, people in the community will donate to you. Does mean you get a couple weeks out of the year where they do a lot of begging.

  • Seems like the logical conclusion would be then that people who train LLMs should be responsible for curating the data, not expecting that the data will just be sound. People have been lying on the internet since it was invented, the advent of LLMs isn't suddenly going to create an internet that doesn't occur in.

  • The music Kevin Macleod writes either ends up being the boppiest thing you ever heard or the Bane of Your Existence. There are quite a few of his that TikTok has destroyed by putting on every fucking video.

  • Opus Number 1.

  • It really depends on your hair. My buzzcut looks awkward for a week or two but having the hair all grow back the same length makes it look a lot better down the road. I have also been blessed with the thick kind of hair everyone seems to like so maybe this isn't the way everyone should do it.

  • I get like two haircuts in a year and the barber always makes sure to ask me several times if im sure I want a buzz cut. Thats how I know they're a good one, even if their skill is pointless for me.

  • Our moon is very local and worth discovering more about.

  • When the challenger exploded and the space age ended, so too should have been dispelled the mirage that space travel would mean infinite resources for capitalism to exploit.

  • At some point the spirit of space travel died inside me. I no longer see humanities future as being among the stars, and I can't even say that its terribly disappointing to me. I'm still curious and glad that we do things to figure out our world, I think we should fill the sky with telescopes. The narrative of space colonization just doesn't sell to me. Manifest destiny has always been wicked.
