  • I wanted to try Star Trek recently, but found out it's like 1000 episodes and 15 movies, so it might take a while. Though I've heard not everything is worth watching.

    Can anyone from Star Trek's fan base provide some more insights on which shows can be safely skipped, if any?

    As for watch order, I'm gonna go with release date order, unless there are any special circumstances.

  • Nobody 'broke America'. It's working perfectly as designed. This shit goes back 250 years, but a lot of people are just now waking up to the reality.

    I understand that it may be a hard pill to swallow for Americans, but the truth is simple. The USA was founded as an empire and functioned as a terror state for pretty much all of its history.

    If you didn't know it, then it's probably because it poured billions of dollars into mass propaganda, kidnapping and jailing journalists, as well as utterly destroying any country that dared to oppose it.

    None of this started with Trump. Not a single thing. It has been the standard policy long before Trump was born. He just stopped pretending otherwise. In its entire history, the USA has had maybe 2 or 3 presidents that were not serious war criminals.

    The core issue is not Trump, or the republican party, or the oligarchs, or even capitalism. The core issue is the United States' existence. The only solution is to either radically transform the country, ideally dividing all states into independent countries, or to get rid of it entirely.

    As long as the USA continues, world peace is physically impossible to achieve. There will not be peace, order, or justice in the world until the empire collapses.

    Personally I don't think it'd lead to any war. If the US empire decides to take Greenland, the EU will almost definitely let it. Almost all European leaders are either weak and spineless or straight up American assets.

  • Modern law is pretty much what happens when people let themselves be fooled by a smart psychopath.

    "Murder is not allowed."

    "Well, I didn't 'murder' that guy. I paid someone else to do it, so they're guilty and not me."

    What should have happened is it's the same thing and the guy answers for it accordingly. Instead, people got fooled by a sufficiently plausible argument. And then we started the infinite loop of specifying every single tiny thing separately, ending with a set of laws that only professional lawyers after years of training can read and comprehend (still not always).

    Only a handful of people stopped to think about teaching at least some basics of this insane law to people, e.g., as a subject in school. But other than that it's, of course: spend every second of your life learning what's allowed and what's not, or pay for your ignorance. And don't worry, you'll still get screwed over by a billionaire with 50 full-time lawyers.

  • It's not at all misleading. That's how percantages work. It plainly says '+22.4%', which is fully factual and accurate. Your 'actual 1% increase' is a false statement. It's a 1 percentage point increase, which is completely separate from the regular percantage.
