I've always (at least since my teens) considered any movie that came out within the last ~10 years to be "relatively new/recent". Anything less than 3 years is new/recent. Same for music.

There's nothing wrong with an in-game shop if it isn't predatory. For example, this made me think of Rift, where you could fully appreciate the game for free, but quality of life upgrades would cost a few dollars.
